Cliff Jumping near or around Portland
by cliffjumpndude
I have seen over 15 spots on airabovewater.com, what places have you been too, and which ones would you recommend. We are gonna be there for about a week in late july 2008. Has anyone ever heard of cascade locks or forty footfalls in washington? Any replies will help. thanks.

My friends and I are planning a similar trip to OR & WA for late August 2008. I'm looking into different places to go so I'll let you know what I find. Could you do the same? My e-mail is danmckelvey@gmail.com.
There's a ton of waterfalls in the Columbia River Gorge area, though I'm not sure how many of them you can jump off. Some are 100+ ft.

bro head towards central oregon - theres a few places deep in the woods... I think its the N santiam river you'd be jumpin into
FROM PDX
I-5 South towards SALEM/TIGARD 45 mi
Take Ex 253 towards DETROIT LAKE
Left onto OR-22 25 mi
its kinda hidden and lots of campgrounds by the river with falls and cliffs to jump off..its off of HWY 22 on your left side - you'll see the sign that says "elkhorn" and just follow the gravel road. the higher you go, the better the jump

A little Slice of Portland
by girl24
My recommendation to anyone visiting portland is to check out the shops on NW 23rd and 21st, there are also some nice restaurants and coffee houses to grab a bite for lunch or dinner. When I'm away from Portland I miss the comfort of knowing my way around and running into friends when I'm out and about.
Pick up a Willamette Week.

Pick up a Willamette Week. It's a free publication and in the center there's a list of venues and what bands will be playing where at what times. WW comes out every Wednesday and can be found at newsboxes around town.
Number One tip: Portlander's...
by ChillinToad
Number One tip: Portlander's are easy going and laid back. Very casual dress and atmosphere.
Number Two tip: Portlander's like their beer. Portland is the Micro-brew mecca of US. They don't usually like typical American domestic beers.

It's really dry during the summer here, honest! Too bad you couldn't have come then...
UMBRELLA -- most young Portlanders scoff at these, but if you visit between the months of October and May, and don't like getting drizzled on, this is definitely essential.
RAINCOAT -- Bring a coat you trust, or find one here at Portland's own Columbia Sportswear.
BOOTS -- Yes, we love Birkenstocks here in the Pacific Northwest, but not in February. During the rainy season a good set of hiking boots will get you through the trails of Forest Park and the puddles of Sixth Avenue.
Wine tasting
by seoulgirl
There are alot of wineries near Portland. You can easily find them yourself. They are marked in Blue along the roads. They are all open on the weekend and some during the weekday. Call ahead to make sure. You can head toward McMinnville and run into about 5 of them. Take a picnic and eat at the winery, most have picnic spots. They have wine papers that I believe come out monthly that you can find at various brew pubs and restaurants around town for free. And don't
worry about wine snobs, just go and have fun!
Questions and Answers

Cheers

A: "The closest coastal town to Portland is Tillamook (not quite on the coast, but close), which is connected by a bus from Downtown Portland and offers another bus..."
