A Really Big Quilt show in July
"A Quilt Show in Oregon"
Sisters, Oregon holds a Quilt Show the Second Saturday in July every year. It is advertised in major Quilt magazines. This year there were 1200 quilts to view. Quilts are displayed in an outdoor theme, lining the streets hanging from the store fronts. A casual and western look, it is a casual and western town... The 20,000 viewers this year consisted of women, men and children, quite the crowd. They are a happy group, enjoying the quilts.
There are many retail stores to shop in, with unique restaurants and vendors with food.
One must plan early. Sisters is a small town 22 miles west of Bend, OR. on Highway 97.
The reason you must plan early, there are many motels and hotels, some listed on internet, in Bend, OR nearby. However it seems people reserve one year ahead. We found all were full one month before the Sisters Quilt Show. Also there are RV and camp grounds nearby and they were full for reservations. We stayed in a very nice, homey, well decorated motel in Gilchrist, 60 miles south of Bend. $84. per night. The Gilchrist Inn.
The trip into Sisters, or anywhere in this part of Oregon is beautiful. There are the large volcanic mountains in the area. Three Sisters mountains are the background for Sisters OR. Bend is on Hwy 97, considered the Scenic route of OR.
The scenery goes from forests to desert on this highway. There are sights to see, volcanic areas nearby. Also Sunriver, a ski and vacation area is on this Highway, south of Bend.
