I actually live in Martinsburg, PA, 20 miles south of Altoona. I moved to Martinsburg from Altoona when I was going into Kindergarden.
I go to Altoona for all my shopping, movies, and to visit my family there.
Altoona also has historic components such as the Mishler theater, the Railroaders Museum, and the Horseshoe Curve. A big portion of Altoona's history is the railroad.

Gallitzin Tunnel to right and Allegheny to left

Bridge remains though road and rails are gone

This was the coldest track meet I have ever been to.
27 degrees Fahrenheit with a light snow in the morning, warming up to 35 degrees. It was so cold, the officials let the kids wear hats and gloves. When we departed Altoona, it was snowing again.
