    Great Hotel near Gettysburg

I stayed at this hotel for three nights in Aug, 2009 on a visit to Gettysburg. I found it much cheaper to stay in Chambersburg and drive for about 20-30 mins ea way to Gettysburg. Ride to Gettysburg is very pleasant on nice country road. Room was large, in great shape, very clean, and of course Sheraton beds are always very comfortable. Breakfast was included and was rather extensive. Free daily newspaper and free in room internet, in room coffee. Pretty standard bath amenities for a hotel of this rank. Staff was very pleasant and helpful. Would definitely stay here again. This hotel was a Priceline bid win, making it even more attractive due to price.

Unique Quality: Great indoor swimming pool. Sheraton beds are always extremely comfortable.

Directions: On main east west hwy, east side of town.

Jim's Market in the old...

by RailFan

Jim's Market in the old railorad roundhouse is a real farmer's market. It is open only during the day on Friday and Saturday. You will find many Amish and Mennonite specialties. They have the best bratwurst (farmer's sausage) you can find!

Churches of Chambersburg

by Ewingjr98

The sign reads:

This church, the third building, stands on the site of a log church built in 1780 by the Lutheran and Reformed and used jointly by the congregations till 1808. The land was donated by Benjamin Chambers.

Central Presbyterian Church was organized in 1868. The following year the church acquired one of the vacant lots that was cleared by the fire of 1864. This lot across from the county courthouse had previously been home to the Franklin Hotel. The construction was completed in 1784.

Organized in 1778, this church's first pastor traveled from Hagerstown to preach. Construction began in 1811 on land granted by Benjamin Chambers. A beautiful crystal chandelier built in 1813 graces the building. The church survived the burning of the town, and its spire, modeled after a design by Sir Christopher Wren, was used as an observation point.

The church has a unique provision in that the deed states the church must pay an annual "rent" of one rose from the church's garden to a surviving member of the Chambers family. Each June the church has Rose Rent Sunday, where this tradition continues uninterrupted since 1780.
