Work on restoring the 71 year...
by mtwohig
Work on restoring the 71 year old Warner Theatre is expected to be completed by October 2003.
Crews have been working to restore the lobby's ceiling and the auditorium as part of this first phase of a $13.5 million restoration project. Nearly 30 artist from around the nation are almost halfway to their goal of making the old Warner Theatre new again. At 811 State Street, this is the last original Warner Brothers theatre left in this country. It is especially precious because others have been remodeled or aren't being used as theatres anymore. Since it opened on April 10, 1931, it's been in constant use as a theatre, and that's special.
The Warner has been, and will continue to be, a landmark in Erie.
Visit the newly restored Erie Land Lighthouse
by James_Lawrence
In 2004, Erie's Port Authority rescued the historic Erie Land Lighthouse (1867) from the neglect of the City of Erie.
The original lantern room had been transferred to another lightouse in 1899 leaving the Land Lighthouse without a top.
The new lantern room, rebuilt to near exact specifications as the original, was hoisted to the top of the lighthouse tower in 2004.
While the lighthouse is not open for tours yet, the grounds can be accessed from dawn to dusk without charge.
From the lighthouse park, visitors can enjoy sweeping views of Lake Erie and the Presque Isle State Park peninsula.
The adjacent neighborhood is in transition - but definitely on the rebound. A 100 year old paper mill (Hammermill) was recently closed and the site is in the proecess of being redeveloped.

My very good friend is from Erie . . . Unfortunately, my last visit to Erie was for her mother's funeral . . . I would like to dedicate this page to Helen . . . A wonderful, lively, very funny woman who would be happy to know we sent her out in style and had fun remembering her
