When I am on the Eastern side of the country, I try to get a visit in to both my Family and my good friend who lives in New York City. Its quite a drive, but the scenery is pretty along the way. Its about a 5 1/2 - 6 hour drive from Erie to NYC or visa versa.
Presque Isle State Park is a treat even in the winter. The crowds and traffic are gone and the park is peaceful and quiet.
Try crosscountry skiing, hiking, and/or ice-fishing.
Photographers can capture some great scenes escpecially after a new snowfall.
I have done lots of on-site contracting for clients in Erie. The first time I visited, it was a rainy september. I didn't know much about the area, so I was underwhelmed. Now that I know more, I can't wait to get back!
