Paxton Presbyterian Church, c.1740, is among the oldest American churches in continuous use the cemetary of course. Here Lies JOHN HARRIS, JR. 1726-1791 Founder of Harrisburg and son of the man who made the original settlement
REV. JOHN ELDER 1706-1792 Famous 'fighting parson' and organizer of the Paxton Boys. Born and educated in Scotland, was a pastor of Paxton Church from 1738-1791. A staunch supporter of the Revolution, and recruited for the army.
This island lies in the middle of the Susquehanna River, right in front of downtown. Here are a number of attractions: the Commerce Bank ballpark, water golf, a beach (actually concrete), Riverside Village, a small train, and marinas.
Also, check out the Pride of the Susquehanna, a tour boat based on the island (I have another tip on that).
Ever heard of Three Mile Island??? I clearly remember the day in 1979 when the Television News scared us of nuclear contamination....
The meltdown occurred in the two dormant towers on the right side.....
