A slice of history
The town of Jim Thorpe is dotted with Bed and Breakfast's but The Inn at Jim Thorpe is the only one that was originally built as a hotel. Built is 1833, the hotel suffered from a fire in 1849 and rebuilt. The lobby is nice period decor but surprisingly has an elevator which is helpful considering there are 4 floors. The lobby also has a gas fire place that makes it very cozy.
The room was very clean and so was the bathroom. The shower was very hot which was great after a day of winter hiking. Typical of a building this old, the floors are are not very level. Not bothersome at all and adds to the charm of the room.
Unique Quality: according to the hotel website, several rooms are haunted!
From their website:
"Past reports include chairs being turned upside-down while guests slept. TVs have mysteriously turned on and off, objects have moved around, strange orbs and shadows have appeared in photographs, and small children have said they’ve seen ghosts in their bed. Is it true? One never knows, does one?"
I did not experience any ghostly occurrences during my two nights. Too bad, I was looking forward to it!
