From Washington dc to Lancaster

by Claudia1976

We are travelling from Washington DC to Lancaster. Which route is the best to see most of the Amish people.

First drive north on I-95 to Baltimore. From there you have two options: (1) get on I-83 northbound to York, PA and then pick up Rte. 30 east to Lancaster. (2) continue on I-95 north past Baltimore to Rte. 222 north, and take that to Rte. 272 north to Lancaster. The first way is probably a little faster, the second way is a little more scenic.

Use Google Maps to figure out your route--it is very easy. Just type Lancaster, PA into Google and click on the map that comes up in the results. From there you can click on "get directions" and then type in your starting point.

Roadside Stands & Signs

by Pawtuxet

Sometimes you can find most anything at a roadside stand....or get instructions on your life from a roadside sign! You're in deep bible country here. See my travelogue for more...
This sign is telling you what you should wear in order to stay in the favor of the Lord.

Good place for a VT meeting

by acemj about Plain and Fancy Farm

This place feels a little touristy, because, well it is! There's a huge gift shop at the front of the large establishment and the restaurant is in back. Be sure to take note of the Amish contruction. There are no nails in these wood beams. Very cool. A big group of VTers met here in May of 2004 for a great afternoon of eating and socializing. We had fried chicken, ham, roast beef, corn and a few other things. Everything was pretty decent, although your only choice for salad dressing is traditional bacon dressing, which is actually pretty good.

Quilts - what The Ladies Came For

by Mikebb

If you are interested in Quilts then you will see some outstanding hand made quilts on display and there are many for sale. All sizes and shapes there is most likely the ideal one for you.

My wife was impressed and purchased a smaller quilt to bring back to Australia.

Intercourse

by Easty

Intercourse was my first VT Meeting experience (See my Intercourse page for information on the May 9, 2004 meeting). It is also a great destination for antique shoppers. Kitchen Kettle Village (pictured here) is a shopping village with quaint antique shops. There are also many antique shops lining the landscape along Philadelphia Pike in Intercourse.
