Do a tour in buggy
by GUYON
do a tour in buggy. The Amish men refuse the modernity but not the $ and they organize tours for tourists.
Look at the handmade mailbox. Each farm has its original one. It is near a tourist trap : a tour of half an hour in buggy to see some farms (See the travelogue) with a stop in a farm in which children sell some homemade cakes. Price : 25$ per person (Aaron & Rebecca Tour).
Take a drive off the main road...
by oneonta_ni
Take a drive off the main road and enjoy the scenery of the countryside. I found it fascinating to see such huge, well-kept farms with buggies and horsedrawn ploughs outside. If you can find the Union Presbyterian Church, you can see the stained glass window dedicated to Joseph White, my great-great-grandfather.
Visit Kitchen Kettle Village - Intercourse
by Mikebb
This is a beautiful shopping centre with character buildings and lovely landscaped gardens. It is a tourist mecca but designed so the visitors are spread out through the various streets. We had lunch here, enjoyed the free entertainment, and took the best part of an hour to look through the shops.
If you are looking for Quilts I recommend you walk over the highway a few hundred metres where there are several specialist retailers.
There is a large parking area adjacent to the village.
Intercourse Heritage Day
by Mikebb
Walking through the town I passed this Notice and thought it worth a photo.
We were in town on 7th June a little early for the celebration.
Keep in mind that the 250th Anniversary celebration will be in 2009 and most likely will be a big show.
Cornwall Iron Furnace
by Knight_Kadosh
One of the world's best-preserved historic iron making facilities, Cornwall Iron Furnace operated from 1742 to 1883. It was among the earliest iron furnaces in Pennsylvania and was distinguished for its role in the manufacture of cannon and munitions during the American Revolution. Once producing one-seventh of the world's iron, the Cornwall Iron Furnace is an example of the pioneering spirit of America.
Near Lancaster- Lebanon County line.
