How to take Pennsylvania Dutch food home with you
by ringleader
Lancaster's local Pennsylvania Dutch food is not actually the healthiest food available; but, if you like high-in-fat, fried, and meat-and-potatos meals you'll enjoy it!
There is a cookbook of Pennsylvania Dutch food that we have enjoyed for more than 20 years. Although we are not from Lancaster County, our area has a major Mennonite influence. Our local Mennonite Historians of Eastern Pennsylvania have published this cookbook, Franconia Culinary Pride 'n Joy, which was originally put together by the Franconia Mennonite Church. It (and others) is available at their website for $9.95. http://www.mhep.org/shop.html
Take a driving tour through local farmland
by mmyerspa
I lived in Lancaster County most of my life. My favorite country drive through farmland is Route 896, just outside of Strasburg. If you're in "Amish Country", leave the shopping outlets (Rockvale Square and Tangers) on Route 30 (the main east-west highway) behind....take 896 - just past Rockvale - into Strasburg. Continue on 896 past Strasburg. You can drive for 5-10 miles through nearly pure farmland. Pass Michael's Bakery on the left past Strasburg, and take a peak at the wonderful view on the left as you come up over the rise. It's my favorite view in the county. I'm sorry I don't have a picture for you....but I promise you won't be disappointed.

Sturgis Pretzel House
by seagoingJLW
There are tours through this pretzel factory. Best part: You can make your own pretzel.
Legend has it, a man passing through Lititz gave Julius Sturgis the recipe for hard pretzels in return for his generous hospitality.
Visit Amish Farmhouse / Museum
by Mikebb
We arrived at the farmhouse about 9 am and our group were allocated a guide to take us through each room of the farmhouse. The guide was excellent and explained the detail of each room. The bedrooms were well decorated and looked realistic with everyday clothes on hangers for visitors to view.
After viewing the farmhouse we went outside to view the shed and associated farm machinery. It was an enjoyable stop.
