Kissing bridge
by GUYON
see the covered bridges. They are near 30 in the area. The roof protects the bridge from the snow during the Winter. They are also called 'kissing bridges'. Formely, when a youngman went in buggy to pick up his fiance, on Sunday, to go to the mass, he could kiss her discretly passing the bridge.
Go to the soda fountain in Lititz
by mmyerspa
There's a drugstore in Lititz (northern Lancaster County) that still has a soda fountain. Lititz also has a nice little park, the Wilbur chocolate factory, and is just a very attactive historic borough. Just take Route 501 out of Lancaster until you get to Lititz. Note that the drive is pretty ugly, (lots of housing developments and strip malls) but worth it....
Dutch Wonderland (revisited)
by davecallahan
In 1978, the kids were immediately excited by the white castle along the road as we left Lancaster. The kids weren't with us this time but the castle was still there. We are a bit too old now for the rides so we did not get an entrance ticket but we could see that they had greatly expanded the whole place in 30 years (and it seemed that there were a lot more people there now than back then). I am glad to see they still have the kid participation in theater shows which our kids loved. I don't remember the miniature golf course but it has been a few years and my memory may not be so great. It's a nice added feature though.
Shop the farm stands
by Pawtuxet
In order to get a good feel for this place, you need to pay attention to the simple things along the way. Stop at several roadside stands. Each has its own personality as well as its own assortment of saleable goods. You might find antiques or quilts or homemade baked goods in addition to the standard fruits and vegetables. Meeting the folks who fun the stands is also part of the fun.
Amish Women
by keeweechic
Amish Women wear their hair in only one style. It is parted exactly in the middle and combed smoothly down to the temples where two plaits begin and work there way around into a knot just under the edge of the white caps they wear. It is not compulsory for young girls to wear bonnets.
