"why go there?"
when i was working in Westhampton Beach NY, I lived in the hotel I was managing, so there was no escape!
best way was to just get away completely on my day off, and once a summer, just get a total change of scene.
hotel owners also owned the MVCC (see tips) so it was an obvious place to go
i loved rural Pennsylvania; so different to Long island.
weather was cooler and crisper; landscape totally different; people warm and friendly; everything!
before i went i'd been told about the local beer - Rolling Rock.
at that time (mid '70s) it was only available locally - certainly not in far away New York! we always took a case home with us, because it was so much better than the national brands - all you could get in those days, before micro breweries were invented.
anyway, the Lehigh Valley is where Rolling Rock originated.
i got a real surprise when it started to appear in Glasgow pubs about 10 years later
writing this makes me want to try it again - see if its still good, or ruined by being a global brand!
