Travel Tips for New Hope

Steam train ride is fun for...

by feline01

Steam train ride is fun for adults and kids. The ride from Route 78 to New Hope along Route 611 South to Route 32 South. Point Pleasant is a very pleasant-looking village with expensive antique shops and cute stone houses. Beautiful, meandering road along the Delaware that passes wee stone houses, farm land, small villages etc..Some famous newswoman died along this road years ago. Can't remember her name but she had a few drinks, misjudged a small bridge, ended up in the canal and drowned. Not so nice story but it does remind one to be careful on this road!

Runaway mules

by Pawtuxet

This was the excitement of our visit to New Hope. As we sat on the bridge waiting for the mules and boat to come by for a photo, the mules were a bit fussy. The trainer was struggling to make them behave. Suddenly the ropes broke and the mules took off at a healthy trot...with trainer hanging from the side of the saddle, trying to stop them or get on top of the runaway. It was quite a while before he stopped them. Meantime the boat was adrift in the canal...filled with tourists wondering what was next. Eventually, the boatsman got his long pole and pushed toward shore, the mule driver got the critters back where they belonged, and the tourists were delivered safely to their destination. Just a fun little "happening" on a lazy sunny afternoon.

Coming Through!! clang..clang..clang..ding! ding!

by Pawtuxet

Every once in a while you hear the clanging and know that the railroad crossing is about to close to car traffic. It's a treat to see the huge engine steaming across the street, so close to the buildings and modern day traffic. It's a beautifully kept train....offering specialty rides for Father's Day,l Easter Bunny tours, Trick or Treat Halloween trains, and such. You could have a child's birthday party on the train or do a private charter.
Everyone seemed excited just to see it coming through.

Motorcycle Row..... Part two :)

by bct341

Ok.. this is a view of the rest of Motorcycle row.. of course this row increases and decrease depending on the amount of bikes.. and if the sun is out and it is a beautiful day.. count on lots of them... can you hear them? LOL

hey..see I am not the only one admiring the bikes :)

Church supper ???

by Pawtuxet

Saving the architecture is a good idea...even when the church's congregation is long gone. Here we see an example of "re-use" as an upscale restaurant uses the structure for a restaurant. Simply a new twist to the old "Church Supper", I guess you could say.
