Great Location / Boring Hotel

The hotel is fine. The bed is VERY comfortable but after that it's pretty bland. WiFi was expensive and outlets were very hard to reach and involved some unplugging. Towels and toiletries were nice, but the bathroom itself was ordinary. It was all clean and service was good, and you can't beat the location, but it lacked sparkle.

The restaurant was pleasant with tasty food and good service, but the bar service was terrible!

Unique Quality: The location. You have history, shopping, food and transportation within a short stroll.

We loved Sheraton SocietyHill and Philly!

We stayed two nights during Easter break with two teenagers. We loved both the hotel and Philadelphia. We walked to everything including the Liberty Bell, Constitution Center, Christ Church, Old City, South Street. The city was amazingly clean and friendly and there was a lot to do during the day. We hit the Sheraton's indoor pool and hot tub at night. Loved DiNardo's for steamed crabs, only a short walk. Service was great. Continental breakfast was sufficient with bagels, muffins, cereal, juices. We would definitely go back and/or recommend this hotel.

Unique Quality: Lovely location, end of cobblestone street, quiet.

Dog Friendly

There's actually lots of grassy areas for your pooch to squat on in this area of the city. Your best option if your pet is not a true city dog ... my dogs prefer grass to concrete so this is really helpful. It's also on the edge of center city and seems "safer".

Average rooms but good location.

Unique Quality: Indoor pool on 4th floor.

DOG FRIENDLY!

In the heart of the Old City

I live in the area, so I have not stayed in this hotel, but I have been here on many occasions. The Society Hill Sheraton is in a quiet part of Philadelphia's historic area. While staying here you would be close to all the historical sites and many fine restaurants. It is also in an area with some fine nightlife. This section of the city is great for walking and very safe.

Location was great

Prices for Historic Philly were HIGH the week of our Spring Break in March, 2006. The hotel had all the right features. Room and beds were very comfortable, if not overly large. We were there with our two boys and they really enjoyed the heated pool on the 4th floor (top floor). The lobby and restaurants could use a bit of updating, but they were still clean and pleasant. Wish the menu was a little more extensive, but it was your basic hotel fare.
Most of all, it was a great location for a quick walk to all the historic sites.
The staff was very friendly!

Classy Accomodations

Unique Quality: Beautiful hotel, gorgeous lobby. But my best memory is of the late night martinis at the hotel bar. The bartender knew just how to make them!
It's hard to go wrong at a hotel like this.

Good location, nice hotel.

Our second stay in Philadelphia brought us to this hotel. It sits across the highway from the Hyatt and the large Hyatt building blocks any view of the water. The view is not the problem here, the regular rooms four 4 people that makes it tight. The rooms are not fancy but do have most everything you need. We found out on our last day that they had large club rooms and I thing will give them a try next time. Front desk staff is a little dry and act like they need a day off ( but don't we all ).The hotel is very nice and has a nice sports bar, restaurant and indoor pool. Location is great and you can walk to everything and feel safe.

Unique Quality: Society Hill homes in the area are a must to see. A sunday morning walk is the best to view the quiet streets. Try South Street at that time, it seems normal in the before noon hours.

Stay Away

The lobby area is nice. I have to say something nice about the place, but that's it. Let's see - dirty sofa in room, bath tolietried from circa 1975, dirty carpet, the mattress cover does NOT stay on the bed leavin one stuck to a nasty bare mattress in the morning. 1 1/2 hours to get our car from valet. Need I say more?

Unique Quality: Pool is ok - a bit cold for an indoor pool.

Sports stars everywhere

Another one of the finer hotels in Philadelphia. Located in the historic Old City area, you are close to everything.

Unique Quality: You can't beat the atmoshpere, and most of the visiting sports teams stay there. I got to meet Patrick Ewing at one of the restaurants.

More about Sheraton Society Hill

Philadelphia - Society Hill

by ATXtraveler about Sheraton Society Hill

If you are visiting Philadelphia, there are a couple of options on where to stay. We had a conference on the riverfront, which led us to choose the Sheraton Society Hill, because of its proximity. It was a short little walk to restaurants and nightlife, and was on the main trolley paths for the other more exciting locations such as the Liberty Bell and the like.

Overall, the hotel was nice. I thought it was a much older tradtional building, but I learned that it was actually built in the 80's and just designed to look older. The "antique" elevatore made me mad though when I found out that it actually was not slow because it was old, but rather designed that way.

The room was comfortable, mainly because of Sheraton's "Sweet Sleeper" bed, but I would warn you not to get a room on the third floor, because it is located right next to the pool. There seemed to be alot of noise coming from the pool, which was right out my back balcony window.

Hotel / Lounge for 2 night stay in Center City ??

by Funcouple

We're looking to spend a midweek evening or two in the city and are looking for a clean and comfortable hotel with a cozy and active lounge. We're 35 & 39 and we're not the snooty Ritz Carlton types -- but we do prefer a more mature crowd. We don't get out that often and we're looking to let our hair down for a change!

Any thoughts or ideas? Thanks.

The Society Hill Hotel might do for you. It's a small place in Old City. I don't know what you mean by an "active" lounge but this hotel has a good and cozy one, with live jazz in the evenings. The neighborhood is excellent for sightseeing and going out at night.

It's the Sheraton Society Hill. My friend is the meeting planner there and it should meet your needs, plus it's only a block from plenty of restaurants and bars.

"Active" lounge meaning not empty, good mix of people, locals and business travelers, etc. Some dancing is OK but not necessarily desiring a DISCO type place or BEE BOP dance club. Looking for a place to meet and mingle with interesting / fun folks.

2nd & Market Street has a lot of lounge type places. It's 3 blocks from the Sheraton Society Hill. Corner of 2nd & Market = Continental (great food and good atmosphere). 2nd in between Market and Chestnut = Cuba Libra, Bleu Martini. Market St, right around 2nd = One 14, Marmont. For later evening (with dance floor) Lounge 125 (2nd between Chestnut and Walnut - next to the parking garage). Other areas of town? Let me know.
