Quick Trip

by PeanutBCup

Hi I am making a quick trip down to Philly for the first time on Friday and staying until Sunday. I am going to watch the Jays and Phillies at Citizens bank Park. I am staying right near the stadium. between the 2 games I only have a bit of time, what should I do. Also is it okay to wear the opposing team jersey at the ball game?

You can take the Broad St subway from the Pattison Ave. station (near the stadium and the beginning or end of the line) to Center City (City Hall stop at Broad and Market Sts.} and walk the 10 blocks east to Independence Mall. The visitor's center is at the corner of 6th and Market.
As for the jersey as long as you don't wear the Yankees or Mets all should be fine.

Travel Tips for Philadelphia

Phila rocks

by ace1010

Phila is a historical city. I visited it in summer 2004.

The downtown is small, you can go around in just an hour. Yet there are so many places of interests. I love the independance hall most. It is also shown in the new movie National Treasure. A must-see place.

The city has so many thing to offer I don't know where to begin. Some of the best places to go would be:
South steet
The philadelphia zoo
Boathouse row The people of Philadelphia, they truely are very warm and friendly, but very proud. This is thier city, and they voice their alliegence very loudly.

Great city parks

by acemj

There are some great parks in Center City to break up the monotony of cement and skyscrapers. A bit of green space can help to keep the sanity of city dwellers in tact and Here is a shot of Washington Square, which is located near Society Hill on the east side of town.

First Bank of the United States

by yooperprof

The United States is built on money - lots of it. And having a firm financial footing was essential in the early days of the republic. Without the monetary manipulations of Alexander Hamilitons, it's questionable whether the United States could have stayed United. This neoclassical structure housed Hamilton most significant project, the First Bank of the United States. Completed in 1797, it's a reminder of the time when Philadephia (and not New York City) was the financial as well as political capital of the country.

The Bank losts its federal charter in 1826, but continued to operate as a financial institution until 1926. Now used for park offices, it is closed to the public.
