Where to stay for a Pirates game?

by football74mom

We are coming into town to see a pirates game on our way to DC. Where should we stay and is the airport to far for a cab ride or do we need to rent a car?

On a Road game, kidding. Pittsburgh has blossomed into a great tourist city. Have a look at the Omni. It looks to be convenient to PNG Park and The Strip District.
I hope a local doesn't find this too bad an idea.

I have always had a lot of success using priceline.com for finding a decent price on a great hotel in the CBD or near the airport in Pittsburgh. I have a few that I have stayed in my Pittsburgh pages if you want to have a look. Most of the downtown hotels are within walking distance of the park. Enjoy!

Schenley Park

by yooperprof

Schenley Park is just a bit to the west of the Pitt-Carnegie Mellon concentration. It's a good place to bring a book and catch some rays on an early summer's day. (If you're trying to get here from the Parkway, best use the Boulevard of the Allies exit.)

Heinz ketchup

by Ewingjr98

The H.J. Heinz Company sells 650 million bottles of ketchup each year around the world plus 11 billion individual ketchup packets! Heinz manufactures Ore-Ida, Boston Market frozen meals, Hot Bites, Jack Daniels steak sauces, and many others. Heinz began right here in Pittsburgh in 1869 with horseradish sales and began making its flagship ketchup in 1875.

Heinz also loaned their famous name to Heinz Hall and Heinz Field in the Burgh.

One of the greatest baseball players ever

by RblWthACoz

New Years Eve, 1972. Roberto Clemente, the Pittsburgh Pirates #1 draft pick in 1954, was making his way towards Nicaragua to provide relief supplies after an earthquake. The first round of supplies had never reached the victims of the earthquake and Roberto was furious. His personal mission was to make sure that this round of supplies got directly to the people. The cargo plane went down off the coast of Puerto Rico (his country of birth) and his body was never found. Roberto was awarded 12 Golden Gloves and batted .414 in the 1971 World Series.

A statue of Roberto Clemente stands outside PNC Park in Pittsburgh.

Take a walk along the river

by Herkbert

While the rivers present a great setting for many activities, you might consider just taking a walk along the river and enjoying the water and scenery. With three rivers surrounding the city (can you name them?), you are sure to find a spot to your liking. And the exercise is good for you!
