Hotels with nightclubs

by kdl

I am traveling to Pittsburgh with 10 female cousins in March for a girls' weekend out. We are all between 35 and 65. Where can we stay where there is live or dj music right in the hotel so we can park and not leave all weekend. We love to dance!!!!
Thanks for any help.

Hell with Pit, come to Vegas. You will have a lot more fun, and it's probably cheaper.

The Marriott downtown is a great place to stay with entertainment in the building. Although it's location to the strip district where loads off night clubs restaurants and bars of all types are centrally located within walking distance or by very short taxi ride. Visit this link for more info I would recommend bidding through priceline for about fifty bucks a night. Have a great time. http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/66ffb/d2254/3/

Travel Tips for Pittsburgh

Go to the Carnegie Museum of...

by the_Tedie

Go to the Carnegie Museum of Natural History. It has an incredible amount of stuff; a huge bird collection, a collection of animal skeletons--including the largest dinosaur skeleton collection I have ever seen, a very, very, very impresive gemological collection, an incredible insect collection.....I could go on and on. The Andy Warhol museum. This is an entire (small) museum of Warhol work. Currently it has an exhibit of some of the 10,000 plus items that he collected throughout his life. You can see the whole museum in a few hours.

Diehard Steelers and Pirates fans.

by Faiza-Ifrah

From the residents we ran into and the commentators on Just Ducky Tours, we gathered that people are diehard Steelers fans.

Pittsburgh Steelers were a dominant franchise in 1970s and has won twice since 2004 despite, as my husband says, Patriots and Colts are better on paper. My son is a Patriot fan and resents that Steelers have won twice already. The two of them were mourning Steelers win over Cardinals in Superbowl 2009.

People are also Pirates fans in a light-hearted manner. There are more stories of their failure than successes that are told in a fun loving manner. The two men in the picture cheered for Pirates and cussed Toronto, but then immediately added that as long as Toronto keeps sending tourists to them, it is great.

We did not run into Penguins fans for of course it was not the season.

Victory Parades!

by Ewingjr98

In 2009 the city of Pittsburgh hosted two major sports victory parades in just four months. First the Steelers won the Super Bowl, then the Penguins won the Stanley Cup. The Steelers parade drew some 350,000 people in the dead of winter, and the Pens parade is said to have brought about 375,000 people into town on a beautiful summer day to watch the festivities.

Both parades began around Grant and Fifth, proceeded down Fifth to Boulevard of the Allied, then continued on this street to a stage at Stanwix Street near Point State Park.

PNC Park

by Ewingjr98

PNC Park is the beautiful new home of the Pittsburgh Pirates. It sits in downtown, right along the Allegheny River, overlooking the city.

Do not be confused by the name... It's "PNC Park", not "pee and see park" -- there are no TVs or windows in the restrooms to allow you to see the game while you pee.

Playgrounds

by estargrl88

If you have kids and want to find a playground, here are some of the most fun, called by their local names.
Blue Slide Park - located in Frick park, it's characteristic is the big blue slide going down the hillside. It's in Squirrel Hill and also part of Frick Park, so there are trails and fields behind it.
Anderson Park - located in Oakland, and at the edge of Schenley Park right over Panther Hollow Bridge. This might be good after a trip to the museum or Phipp's conservatory.
Wooden playground (or castle park, can't quite remember) - located in Highland park in the park loop itself, so maybe good after a trip to the zoo (though the zoo itself has a park like area for kids). You'll know it if you see lots of wooden structures!
