We paid a lot lower of a price for staying here in the winter as compared to the summer rates. This hotel is very close to the Shawnee Ski Resort and that is what brought us here. The hotel had very few guests. The hotel staff were very friendly. There is a restuarant, coffee shop, indoor pool and jacuzzi.
Unique Quality: The hotel was in its heydey many years ago. The walls are adorned with photos of celebrities of long ago, like Jackie Gleason and Bob Hope. You feel like you are back in the 40's when you are in this hotel! Our room was miniscule! They tried to make it look bigger by having one whole wall mirrored, but who are they fooling? The television had to be beside the bed as there wasn't enough room to place it in front of the bed. The bed was very cozy with down filled duvet and substanstial pillows. Great view of the Delaware river was right out our window.

My husband and I stayed at the Shawnee Inn for one night from Thursday into Friday, 9/10. The lobby is very nice. The staff was very friendly. Our room was a little smaller than average but did the job. We always ask for double beds wherever we go because the rooms are bigger to be able to put two beds in. Cable was fine, beds were comfortable. The decor was nice too with golfing pictures that went well with the furniture. THe bathroom however, needed major work. Toilet bowl was loose and made a loud noise when you sat on it! The toilet seat was really old. Surely the inn can afford to change the toilet seats! There was absolutely no space between the toilet and the tub so the shower curtain was not able to close on one side. It was a good stay for one night. We got a great rate of $99 per night plus tax and surcharges, which included accomodations, breakfast for two, AND a round of golf for both of us. That's a steal! We could bear our room for one night for that price. The golf was great. Very nice Long course. We had a 1:21 tee time (many golf outings going on) but asked if we can sneak in before the outings and they were very accomodating. They got us on at 12:30 and it took about 4 hours to play. This is with an annoying twosome in front of us that were taking pictures on a scenic par 3. Can't do that when people are waiting! Very nice staff at the golf course.
Sam Snead's restaurant just opened on the Shawnee premises in mid August and it's great. Food was good and plentiful and waiter, Steve, was great. Very cool restaurant. Downstairs there's a golf simulator and a really nice pro named Jim was there to give us tips! We got a 20 minute golf lesson for free.
My advice, go during a weeknight and don't pay the ridiculous weekend rates. I found the package on expedia and called the resort up and booked directly with them and they were more than happy to give me the expedia rate.
Not too clean and a bit stinky, but pretty location...

Pros: The location along the Delaware is beautiful. Renting a canoe or kayak from the folks next door is a must. We saw two bald eagles up close and lots of deer eating berries along the river banks. It's $60 for three or four hours, and worth every cent.
Sam Sneads is a restaurant/tavern on the grounds of the hotel and has good food, and great live one-man-band stuff on the weekends. It's a little pricey, but that's probably because they know that there is no where else for people to go that's within walking distance of the resort!
Cons and just "ok": (To be fair: The major flooding in prior months definitely impacted this resort...some employees said the grounds were flooded, and that the river water even came up to the steps of the hotel! None of the little houses that are available for rent were occupyable due to the damage).
Rooms- We stayed in two different rooms. One was a regular King non-smoking (PA allows smoking in hotel rooms, so make sure you know that and choose accordingly), and the other was a Suite. Both rooms were not very clean. There is a faint smell of stangnant fishiness in the rooms. Our King suite had so much water between the tub and the subfloor, that when I got in the shower, the tub floor moved like I was surfing! Literally. Because of the wedding that weekend, all other rooms were booked...so they couldn't move us. No compensation was offered for our inconvenience (we spent over $700 there that weekend). The maintenance department came in to "drain" the area, and warned us that it may stink. Nice. There was mold in the ceiling of the shower. The place needs a major overhaul.
Restaurants/bars- Charlies- inside the hotel- fun for drinks and to watch sports, or show off your karaoke skills on a Friday night. The breakfast is awful. Lunch was OK for wraps and sandwiches.
Amenities- All I wanted was to swim in the outdoor pool! It looked so nice on the website- but apparently, it had been closed for most of the summer. I was bummed that they didn't post that information on the site. The indoor pool was open, but nasty and it was also affected by the flooding. People were playing tennis and golfing...so I guess that part stayed OK.
Synopsis:
Wait until they have everything fixed inside before you book unless you can handle the smell potential. Don't eat breakfast at Charlies unless you are starving. Sam Snead's is the place for food (but they only do lunch and dinner). Rent a canoe or Kayak if you go before winter.
