Has a bit of everything Discovered Camelback Ski Area! not far from the shop, located 5 minutes off Exit 299 of Interstate 80 in Tannersville,
Fantastic view of the Appalacians
As far as hotels ive stayed at, its certainly not the worst, but I expected more for the money. The first night we stayed there we slept with our ski jackets on, because there was no heat. In the morning we went to report the problem to the staff, only to find out "they forgot" to turn on the heat to that room! Dont even bother w/ the breakfast buffet, it was overpriced, and ive had better breakfast at mcdonalds! The place was clean, and the staff was friendly, but I would definatly stay at another place next trip to that area. The Days Inn up the road might not be as close to the mountain and have the same views, but its reasonably priced, clean, and close to the outlets.
We spent two nights here at the end of our Poconos vacation this summer. We knew they were renovating the place, so we expected it to be a work in progress. But considering the price--$184 a night for a room with a mountain view during race week--we were disappointed. The room was okay, but plain, with no art at all on the walls and very basic furnishings. The balcony was filthy with a bird nest and droppings, and the pool was no cleaner despite being quite attractive with a waterfall and gorgeous surroundings. The elaborate fountain and running water leading out to the lake with two swans was attractive but smelled of decaying vegetation. The elevator looked suffiiciently old for me to question its safety. As other reviewers have noted, the breakfast buffet was overpriced so we passed on it.
Overall, the hotel has potential if given more TLC and some more investment. It is only an eighth of a mile from the Camelbeach waterpart.
we will never stay here again
after reading some of the other reviews about the customer service and treatment at this "resort" i am "glad" to see that my family and i were not the only ones to have this experience. as one other review said.....customer service is truly lacking at this hotel.......we had traveled quite a long way with two small children only to find that our room was not ready.....we asked when it would be ready and they were not sure.......and told us to ask back in about an hour.....mind you the parking lot was practically empty as we had planned our trip during the week (during ski season).......after asking the second time if our room was ready it was clear that we would be waiting a while so we went for a ride to check out the mountain in hopes that it would be ready after that.......it was ready when we returned but there was no apology and in fact it was clear that no gave a hoot about the inconvenience that it had caused........and they were well aware....i believe that the young man who said he was the manager when i asked to speak to one was flat out lying....we picked this hotel b/c of it's beautiful location but we will never stay there again......having been a travel agent some years ago i am well aware of what should be expected at hotels/motels/resorts etc.....this hotel was clearing lacking in proper management........in fact it was such a bad experience that this is the very first time i have ever written a review about any place that i have stayed.......end of sermon!
Really loved it!
After all the terrible reviews we read, we were afraid to go there, but our insticts were right about the place and I'm glad we trusted it. Before we booked the hotel we asked if the remodeling was finished-since most of the reviews were about that. They were honest to let us know that the remodeling of the rooms was done, but there was still construction going on on the outside area and the suites. When we got there, we were very pleasantly surprised by the location. We chose a mountainview room, which actually overlooks a pond and the Camelback Ski Area. Excellent view! We requested a room on the 3rd floor, since those are the ones with wireless internet connection. The room was clean, spacey. Nothing to complain about. They cleaned the room daily. The staff treated us very well-not that we really dealt with them since we didn't have any problems-but they were very polite and helpfull over the phone and when we got there. The only thing we wouldn't suggest is the breakfast in the resort. Not the best quality and rather pricey. We never tried lunch or dinner there. But in general we were very very satisfied. We would definately go there again.
very much improved since renovations
i must say having been to the chateau in the past, my last visit has been the best of all. they are almost completely done with all of the renovations and let me tell you it was worth the wait. my husband and i like to use the chateau as a getaway spot from the kids. although it's just right around the corner it's nice to getaway. since being taken over by a new management company, things seem to be improving. the ladies at the front desk and the night housekeepers go above and beyond what you would expect of them. on the other hand they do need more luggage carts, not enough of them to service a hotel full of people. overall we had a great time and will be back!!!!! i advise anyone looking over these reviews to give the chateau a chance, you may be surprised!!!!!
