Moving to West Chester?

by DanielleL

Hello!

I'm looking into moving to West Chester. I'd love to know what everyone thinks of the town in general. I have small children, so I'd like to get an idea of the town from a family perspective (i.e.- parks, public schools, fun things to do)! Also, any information on the commute into Philadelphia, good neighborhoods, and what your "best/worst things about West Chester" would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Danielle

I love living in West Chester. The town is nice and has a good mix of families, college kids, and young professtionals. There are several parks in the area. The school systems are good for the most part. It takes about 40 minutes to get into Philly, depending on when and where you are going - 76 is always backed up :-(
The areas around West Chester are also good for families Chadds Ford, Glen Mills, Unionville, etc.
The best thing about West Chester is you are so close to so many things - Philly, NY, BAltimore, DC. The worst is there are a lot of yuppies and people can be materialistic and rude.

Travel Tips for West Chester

Bonner Park - Hiking, a nice lookout point

by panthur

Bonner Park is my favorite little park for a picnic or a little bit of hiking. It borders a railroad track (though the track is rarely used). The track has a stream on one side of it with some nice areas, and on the other side is a steep hill. If you walk along the tracks for a while, there will be a path that leads up to the hill, eventually to this lookout point. Neato!

This park also has some historic buildings on it. An old ruin of a colonial plantation.

Alternately you can use the paths as a death-defying mountain biking trail.. I wouldn't recommend it though. Very steep paths.

Take 926 to Cheyney Rd. to Cheyney College. At 4 way stop next to college head stone, take left to Creek Rd. Follow it to Locksley Rd. Gravel parking area is just off of creek on Locksley, right next to the train tracks. Trails into Bonner are up the tracks from the parking area on the right.
