Bad! Bad! Bad!
by TripAdvisor Member Traveler9393
We reserved one of the "creek side" jacuzzi suites for 3 days and 2 nights. The room was falling apart. The carpet and hallways reeked with a musty odor. The bed was literally broken, the room was sweltering and had no climate control. We were told that the air conditioning broke down but they were "fixing it." The massage shower head holder was broken and the head was swinging around spraying up the shower and bath area. No less than 5 light bulbs were burned out. The deck area was comprised of severely rotted wood which was a tremendous safety hazard. To the hotel's credit we were warned that the deck could be used but it was "use at your own risk." It was the worst two nights I have ever stayed at a hotel. What could be worse yet? I told the manager about it at check out and all she could do was shrug her shoulders and tell me how sorry she was. Seems like they are used to telling the patron to "deal with it." No thanks for next time. My suggestion is to keep driving past this one!
Excellent Value, Luxury Feel

My girlfriend and I love to go to the Woodlands. We never have to leave the hotel to have a great day and night, and the giant jacuzzi is great. The rooms are much nicer than the typical chain hotels and there's lots to do nearby. It's really a great place.

This unfortunately was my second stay at this hotel, and I was equally disappointed with it. I book hotels for groups as part of my work (I travel constantly), but this time around someone else was booking hotels so I was forced to stay here. The linens that the hotel advertises have holes in them and the duvet covers are coming off of the comforters, and the entire hotel is humid and smelly. Most of the showers do not have tubs in them, so it's challenging to keep the water from creeping onto the floor. The hotel has an airport shuttle, which I booked for my boyfriend yesterday (4th of July), and when I asked if it could drop anyone off at the fireworks festival (5 mins. away) I was told "no". The same guy at the front desk who told me "no" drove a couple to a casino BEFORE he dropped people off at the airport, which made no sense (what if they were running late for their flight, and what happened to the "airport shuttle only" policy?" There is construction on the streamside rooms right now, so be prepared for loud noise every day until 5pm (and the streamside area looks like crap). The front desk staff is pretty clueless, and when I was here last year they were actually very rude (only rudeness I experienced this time was the guy who drove the shuttle yesterday). The housekeeping staff is also very loud, and the walls are paper thin. I could hear every word of passerby and neighbors.
The high points:
-Our lunch at the restaurant was very good, and the servers were nice
-Ducks on the path to the parking lot when we were checking out this morning
There is nothing in close walking distance here, you are better off booking the Hilton Garden Inn which is right by restaurants, Wal Mart, and Wachovia Center.
I take it all back!

Two years ago, I wrote a review for this resort and told you how much we enjoyed our stay. Not this time.
We returned 7/6/07 for what would have been a 2-night stay. The resort was much more crowded than last time and about $60 more per night. Still, I wasn't worried about the extra $ - it's summer after all.
BUT! Here were the problems. We went to the lounge - the part between Whispers, and the one downstairs - which seemed a little quieter and more our speed. (We are in our 40s, and we still like to have fun, but we also like to be relaxed.) Drink prices were not terrible... a little high, but we expected that. Considered ordering Sushi (a new, and we thought, good idea) but Sushi prices VERY expensive compared with what is usual. $10-$14 for maki rolls? I don't think so. So we just did a few drinks. About 20 minutes in, a very drunk man was being helped up the stairs and out of the lounge area, by his friends who apparently had more sense than the staff who did not flag him in time to keep him nearly falling onto our table, and two steps later, me. Okay, no biggie, people are drunk, it's a bar, so what....
We go back to our room at 11:30, to settle in. Then the shouting starts. In the hallway. Next door. Okay, people on our floor are drunk and just don't understand how loud they are. No biggie. But then it keeps happening. Someone shouting about room service. Slamming doors. Repeatedly. Throwing furniture around? That's what it sounded like...
At about 2 a.m. I call the front desk. I am asking if I have to pay for a second night if I check out early due to this lousy experience. They say no, and send security up to quiet the folks. Shouting and slamming a little less frequent now. But does continue through 4:30 a.m. when I go down to the front desk for some antacids (my issue) and to make them aware that this continues to be a problem and that we are definitely leaving in the morning. They apologize, mention that they sent security - who only heard a loud T.V. (that we didn't actually hear...) Nice night manager offers to discount the room rate since we have had no sleep to speak of. Fine... Whatever. (I know they are trying to make things right).
Return to room to find loud banging coming from ?? upstairs? This continues for 20 minutes.
Finally! fall asleep around 5 a.m. Not so fast valued guests... Fornerly drunken folks are ALSO early birds (is this even possible??) We are ALL awake at 7 a.m. because you can hear every sound from next door. We hear cell phones, toilet sounds, conversations, etc. Great.
Hubby gets up to hop in the famed room-sized jacuzzi before we depart. He goes downstairs shortly after 7 a.m. Jacuzzi room opens at 6 a.m. But apparently not today, because room key not working. Three other people show up to use fitness center, and their keys don't work either. Back to front desk. Housekeeping going to help. 20 minutes later, housekeeping can't get in either. Ten more minutes and voila - entry gained. However, only one jet in this massive jacuzzi is working - staff is shocked! How can this be? This NEVER happened before....
Okay, time to go now. We pack. Down to front desk. Have to wait for another valued guest to finish lodging her complaint about how horrendous of a stay she is having. Feel her pain.
Checking out now. The discount? $65 - Room rate was $159 +tax. So only paying about $105/night now for no sleep, no relaxation, and no fun.
Well, that's it. I report, you decide. We however, will be staying at B&Bs exclusively now.
Not impressed.

I'm not sure exactly what else is available in Wilkes-Barre, but I've stayed here twice for business and have never been very happy with my stay. It's an older property, and though some of the rooms have a cool feel since they're right on this brook that runs through the property, they're pretty dated. I'd rather stay at a HIlton or Hampton if I had the choice.
This is a party spot, not a quiet resort
by TripAdvisor Member HoustonTravlr
Stayed here in July of 2007. Short version: believe all of the reviews you see on this site about noise, rowdy parties, noisy bars, and smoky smelling hallways.
The website would have you believe that this is a secluded, natural, tranquil resort. Nothing could be more misleading. This is the biggest party spot in 5 counties. Several bars and nightclubs attract partying throngs on the weekends. The "Girls Gone Wild" tour was there during our stay. I'm not kidding.
If you want to party, it is a good place. But if you didn't, don't expect to get any meaningful rest. If your room has a window facing the parking lot, you get to wake up when the bars empty out at 2am and everyone leaves the place.
The rooms were nicely remodelled and comfortable. Service was good for us, although we witnessed several angry confrontations by other guests at the front desk.
Did not enjoy our stay at this hotel.

We read the reviews on this website and visited the actual property website, [--], which stated "Our hotel is situated along the beautiful Laurel Run Stream on 40 wooded Pocono acres." This hotel is actually right off a main road, with huge blinking and flashing signs, reeks of smoke in the lobby, and has little to no charm at all. The indoor pool was super heated and chlorinated so much so that we couldn't swim here with our kids. The outdoor pool is nice, but not heated, so we couldn't swim in this either. Although we were in the Tower section, which had pretty nice rooms, we could still here the music from a wedding that was taking place in the hotel. It was really much closer to a one to two star hotel. I have no idea where the 40 acres are - there was very little green in sight. I would recommend another hotel if you are staying in this area.
Great Get Away - Awesome Staff and Service
by TripAdvisor Member BigJohnI
Booked this place via an internet search last minute. The rates were very reasonable. The room (King) was newly renovated. The linens, pillows, etc.. were new. This place has the largest indoor jacuzzi I've ever seen - 40ppl. They have an indoor and outdoor pool. The restaurant staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. The front desk staff was also excellent. Had room service at 10pm one night and it came super fast and exactly as ordered. I left my interior lights on upon check in and 2 days later the battery was dead. I was about to call AAA and a hotel engineer saw I needed help and brought his vehicle over and charged my car for a half hour. The property is older, but well kept and clean. There was staff everywhere you turned. A few things to keep in mind. There are no elevators in the main section. So pack light. Or in my case, the front desk staff helped us to our room and would not accept a tip. There were not enough ice machines - minor complaint. The hotel is off a main highway and as you pull into the parking lot, you think this is not what I saw on their web site. But after you enter the lobby you forget about what's out front and enjoy the atmosphere of the sprawling hotel.
Bridal Shower, Mistake after mistake!
by TripAdvisor Member VanageTrip
I hosted a bridal shower here. It was just problem after problem. The service personal were great and fixed the mistakes that were created by the event organizer very happily. I called gave the lady the final head count, gave her all the details need for the event and I told her if there would be any changes in the head count that I would contact her to make them. If not the head count was to remain at 31. I received the contract in the mail and only some of the items were changed as per our telephone conversation and the others were not.. The price, head count and number of tables were incorrect. Not to mention I dove an hour to pick up the contract for the party, since I was going out of town, like we talked about on the phone and no one at the front desk knew anything about a contract or would not help me get in contact with the person I set up the pick up with either. I called this lady and left a voice message about the problems with the contract. I received a returned voice message and was told everything was taken care of and that the bride had increased the head count by 3. Since I was the only contact authorized and paying person on this account no one else including the bride should have been aloud to make any changes to the account information without my direct approval. I do not like how that was handled.
Then the dinners were wrong! We went over this on the phone and I told the lady I wanted a starch and not a pasta with the chicken since the appetizer was a pasta. She agreed and told me that would be fixed…it was not taken care of. I went over all this information with this lady long distance on the phone but only half of what we discussed was changed and done correctly.
Well, I was very disappointed about how this whole event was handled. I will never host or recommend anyone to host an event at the Woodlands again. I was very disappointed how my event was handled.
I sent a letter to Rick Kornfeld, General Manager and received a call from him today. Wow someone wants to make it right...not. He claims he just received my letter today that I sent on June 26,07. Even though the check I had sent to the lady on the same day was lost and I had to send another one he got his letter. So where did my first check go? Well the manager doesn't even know how to handled customers. Very unprofessional and rude, if that was in fact the manager who called me. This whole operation needs a lot of work and some customer service manners classes are badly needed. If I were you go some where else....any where else.

I have to say this place is the best wilkes-barre has to offer.
The weather unfortunately was rainy which meant no outdoor
activities were possible. We stayed on the streamside, which
is your best bet for privacy and quietness after they finish the
construction of some of the decks. Call first to see if that is
done. Now for the really big problem!! The mattresses are
truly a horror! We did not sleep much due to sagging in the
middle of these beds. They are in need of new box springs and
mattresses desperately!! We even changed our room thinking
that we would get a better bed but to no avail. If you don't
mind sleepless nights then good luck. The hotel is really nice
though and we did have fun in spite of this problem.
Melinda the manager was very accommodating and tried to
really please us. Alot of partying and smoking!! All the locals
come here for the clubs but everyone is super friendly.
The choice is yours.......
