Hotel Viking: Stay in town

by Vigg

Charming Historic Hotel (c. 1926), close to town, large enough to hold a wedding, yet you wouldn't know it. Very personable service.

Chilly this time of year to have tried the pool, but it is fabulously charming. A French market across the street, and a wine bistro. Walk to the pier for fabulous coffee at the dock, or dine at The Black Pearl. Plenty of small shops.

Johnson & Wales Inn: Not what I expected!

by apbeaches

I was looking forward to staying at the Inn run by students at the largest hospitality/culinary university in the country. The hotel was pleasant, staff/students interesting & professional. We requested a suite with a whirlpool; it was a large sort of ordinary room.

I was expecting a memorable breakfast. We entered Audrey's restaurant after a rush of incoming students & parents prior to their orientation. The fruit, toast, bagels, coffee, juices didn't get replenished. I asked staff twice for coffee & bagels. The kids were pleased but I wasn't impressed; I expected breakfast to be a Wow!

I was expecting a Wow, it was pleasant but nothing unique & memorable. I'm sorry we didn't stay in downtown Providence.

Pearls: Excellent B&B in Newport

by realde14

This B&B in the center of Newport was absolutely fantastic, starting with the spacious bed and living rooms to the incredible breakfast. All is very nicely decorated and the B&B is just a couple of steps from Thames street.

Prices vary depending on room size and season.

Pawtuxet Cottage rental: Homey alternative to hotels and Residence Inn

by Pawtuxet

Just outside the city along the coastline...you reach Pawtuxet Village (about 10 minutes). The village is divided between the cities of Warwick and Cranston. It is a National Historic District with an ample share of interesting architecture ranging from the 1700's thru to Victorians, bungalows, and a few modern homes as well. There are local services (drug store, dry cleaner, bank, market) and coffee shops, ice cream store, etc. which makes this a very convenient location. Besides being 10 minutes to the city, it is also 10 minutes to the train, the airport, an hour to Boston and about 3 1/5 hours to New York. If a quiet, quaint and private cottage appeals moreso than the larger hotels.....please visit and learn about the cottage on my Home Page or my Pawtuxet page...or drop me a line.

King Tom Farm: Wonderful B&B in Southern Rhode Island

by Coarstours

This B&B is in heart of Charlestown, RI. One can easily journey to the the south county beaches, the port towns of Galille and Jerusalem and Ninigret salt pond in less than 10 minutes. Travelling to Newport is only a 1/2 hours drive.

Gracious hosts Joanne and Matt are very knowledgible and have helpful tips on places to discover in southern Rhode Island. This B&B also features cottages that one can rent for longer stays. The rooms are furnished beautifully with turn of the century antiques. Each breakfast was prepared creatively and deliciously. Each breakfast was the highlight of the morning.

Westin Hotel: Premier Hotel for the discerning traveller

by Pawtuxet

Highly recommended for the discerning traveller. The location is perfect if you are involved in any of the major events of the city. Next door to the Convention Center, the Providence Place Mall, a few minutes from Ivy League Brown University, Rhode Island School of Design, and a host of other schools, businesses, banks, the State House, and next to the Interstate Rte. 95. This is a #10 hotel in all ways....from services offered, to quality and decor.

The Westin Hotel is a grand hotel (only a few years old) in the center of downtown Providence with an elevated enclosed glass bridge which crosses the highway to the Providence Place Mall. The Mall is really enormous...with upscale shops, and Nordstrom's as its anchor store.
The Westin is used for weddings, corporate gatherings, has 2 ballrooms, and is also attached to the Convention Center, where many feature events take place. There is a parking garage attached as well. The hotel has a fitness center on the top floor which overlooks the waterfront park in the center city. An upscale restaurant, cigar & cognac bar, and other ammenities are included.
Whether you are looking at it or out of it....the Westin is a truly impressive place to stay.

Holiday Inn South Kingston: A safe bet for business or pleasure ...

by boobania

I last visited this Holiday Inn about 10 years ago and found it to be a bit shabby. But on my visit last week, the positive improvements I saw were quite dramatic. It is obvious when you walk in the door that the hotel has a quality management team that really cares. It is a Holiday Inn "grade" hotel, so don't expect expensive linens and furniture. But I would rank this location high amongst it's grade category. There are many little touches that give the place a warm and inviting feel - fresh coffee always available in the lobby, seasonal decorations, free newspapers at the front desk, a bar and restaurant. The place is run more like a country Inn than a Holiday Inn. The thing that impressed me the most was the cleanliness of the hotel. The rooms were immaculate - not a speck of mold in the bathrooms, clean white grout, no hair on the floor, clean smelling throughout. Sheet linens snowy white. It is apparent the maid staff knows what they are doing. The grounds and common areas were immaculate too - manicured, leaf free lawns, trimmed scrubs, colorful planted flowers around the entrance. The pool was closed, but I could see the pool area was beautifully kept as well. Clean and neat with attractive planting around. As for location, you can't beat it. 5 minutes to URI, 12 minutes to Newport, 10 minutes to beaches in Narragansett. Overall, for business or pleasure, you can't go wrong with this hotel.

The Surf Hotel

by traveldave

The atmospheric Surf Hotel evokes turn-of-the-century Block Island. Its Victorian lobby comes complete with maroon Naugahyde chairs, tin ceiling, dark library nook, and giant-sized chess board.

The rooms are rustic, with no air conditioning (but they do have ceiling fans) or heat. Although each room contains a small sink, the shared bathroom and shower are down the hall.

A wrap-around porch with lounge chairs provides a pleasant place to relax and enjoy the ocean view and sea breezes.

The Surf Hotel is open from Memorial Day (the last Monday in May) to Columbus Day (the second Monday in October).

During the summer high season, there is a six-night minimum stay. A light buffet breakfast is included in the cost of the room.
