Holiday Inn South Kingston: A safe bet for business or pleasure ...
by boobania
I last visited this Holiday Inn about 10 years ago and found it to be a bit shabby. But on my visit last week, the positive improvements I saw were quite dramatic. It is obvious when you walk in the door that the hotel has a quality management team that really cares. It is a Holiday Inn "grade" hotel, so don't expect expensive linens and furniture. But I would rank this location high amongst it's grade category. There are many little touches that give the place a warm and inviting feel - fresh coffee always available in the lobby, seasonal decorations, free newspapers at the front desk, a bar and restaurant. The place is run more like a country Inn than a Holiday Inn. The thing that impressed me the most was the cleanliness of the hotel. The rooms were immaculate - not a speck of mold in the bathrooms, clean white grout, no hair on the floor, clean smelling throughout. Sheet linens snowy white. It is apparent the maid staff knows what they are doing. The grounds and common areas were immaculate too - manicured, leaf free lawns, trimmed scrubs, colorful planted flowers around the entrance. The pool was closed, but I could see the pool area was beautifully kept as well. Clean and neat with attractive planting around. As for location, you can't beat it. 5 minutes to URI, 12 minutes to Newport, 10 minutes to beaches in Narragansett. Overall, for business or pleasure, you can't go wrong with this hotel.
