Execellent Choice

I stayed at the Newport Marriott one night with my two children, ages 10 & 12. The location was great. The rooms were clean and very nice. The pool was excellent. Parking was very convenient.
All in all, an excellent choice for a trip to enjoy the sights of Newport, RI.
Nice for a quick getaway

My husband and I just returned from a weekend stay at the Newport Marriott. We were fortunate to get a harbor side room, which was very nice and clean. The staff was attentive. We liked the location of the hotel; close to shops and restaurants, but not in the heart of all the action and noise. Definitely request a harbor side room, preferably on the 6th floor.
Adequate Newport hotel, pleasant staff, some facilities need updating

The Newport Marriott's staff upholds the usual Marriott level of courteous service. The concierges were particularly helpful and practical.
As in a previous TripAdvisor review, we were first given a room with windows that looked out on internal elevator doors. I can't imagine that any guest would be satisfied with these rooms at a price of hundreds of dollars a night. It's an exercise in deception that imposes on visitors the inconvenience of having to return to the lobby to ask for a replacement room.
The three elevators do not provide good service - they run too slowly and pause on floors too long. The room keycard stopped working on the second day (as did the unrelated internet connection). Frontdesk staff are trained to attribute it to proximity to a cell-phone, not the case here. The building's keycard system needs to be overhauled. It will at least spare guests the pain of using the slow elevators to trek to the lobby to report misbehaving keycards.
The lobby is on the second floor , reached from the first floor street entrance by a sweeping staircase but no ramp. For a hotel where most visitors arrive with rolling suitcases, the lack of a ramp from the street entrance to the check-in desk is unacceptable.

The Newport Marriott is under major construction!
Unfortunately, the rooms that have been complete have a terrible problem with their heating---they are too hot. The beds are very very comfortable but we had the heat turned down to 65 and window wide open and could not get cooled down. Room service confirmed it is really a problem. The old bedding, window treatments are in huge plastic bags in the lobby somewhat hidden behind a blue curtain but very visible from the glass elevator. Rollaway beds are never picked up, and it seems the floors take a very long time for housekeeping...they were there all day. I like a clean room but the messy halls until 5PM were a bit much!
Service okay - 3 calls for our rollaway bed.
Room was nice and clean but the place seems empty.
Staff were friendly and helpful.
Breakfast buffet is $4.95 for kids 12 and under but waitstaff unaware of that and charged $14.95 until corrected. Food pretty good not hot enough but good variety of choices.
Good location and walking distance to everything.
I understand construction but the old bedding was odd.
Dumpsters outside in the back also filled to capacity with chairs and beds! Messy view.
Not sitting chairs in rooms with KING beds.
Odd because plenty of room for one or 2.
Desk but desk chair only to sit and read.
Comforters nice and beds very comfortable!
Enjoy.
Pleasant stay

When booking this hotel, we were told that the extensive renovations underway since last fall would be completed by the end of April. Not so!! We stayed for 2 nights in late April, and renovations are still underway in both the public spaces and some guest rooms. My guess is that they have at least 2 more months before all renovations are completed. The rooms that have been renovated are pleasant and comfortable, however 2 people in our party reported troubles with the HVAC systems in their newly renovated rooms. The interior of the hotel is very attractive and features a stylized nautical theme, however the large atrium can be noisy when group functions are held in this space, and this noise can be troublesome for the many rooms that front on the muti-story atrium.
The hotel staff was extremely pleasant and helpful and go out of their way to make your stay enjoyable. The Marriott is very well situated within walking distance of all the historic downtown attractions. Newport can be very expensive -- both restaurants and hotels/guest house and the Marriott is no exception. With all that said, this is a very pleasant place to stay in beautiful Newport.
Renovations Cmplete!

We called from the road for a very last minute room. My husband is a Marriot Gold holder, so we know our Marriots. We enjoyed our stay very much. The room was new with a fantastic view of the Harbor. We were on the Concierge level, which included snacks, breakfast, booze, nice terrace, etc. They upgraded our room, so for what we paid (229 with tax) we got a very nice value. The room was missing robes - but were delivered when requested. The girls at the concierge desk were very helpful and friendly. The front desk - ditto. The elevators are painfully slow and the pool/hot tub area was like a YMCA. Looked like a nicely equipped gym. Great location and great place to stay for a fun weekend in Newport! I would pay the upgrade for the harbor view!

We arrived at the Mariott, Newport, RI on August 17 for a three day stay. The lobby is quite beautiful and very spacious. When making our reservations, we were assured that this Mariott was harborside and requested a harborview room. Imagine our surprise when our room, very small at that, overlooked the dumpster! We were then told to look out the window somewhat higher then we could see the harbor and avoid the trash. Our room was changed and this time to city view as there were no harborview available. Keep in mind, our reservations were made in advance. The rooms are well appointed, but for $400 a night, we expected a better view. This Mariott may well be facing the harbor on one side, but is certainly not harborside. We were able to locate another hotel which is right on the harbor so it was then a lovely vacation.
