    We stayed at the Newport Gateway for two nights in late May, a Thursday and a Friday. Their rates change depending on the day of the week, but we were able to negotiate a lower Friday price because we arrived on Thursday. However, the desk staff messed up the credit card charge, so do double-check the math before you sign, unlike me. When the error was spotted they were very apologetic and got it taken care of as soon as possible (before we left).

    Originally we were in room 17 (the rooms have exterior entrances) but the recent stormy weather and humidity had caused the wooden door frame to warp, and the bathroom door would not stay closed. We requested to move and ended up in room 18, which was much better. Room 18 also housed the thermostat for that section of the hotel, so we were able to choose our own temperatures for the evening.

    This hotel was very close to a shopping plaza with a Walmart, Shop and Save, Supercuts, etc. Turn left out of the hotel and make an immediate right at the stoplights. Keep going straight, under an overpass, and the plaza will be on your right before a roundabout.
