Travel Tips for Newport

Newport History

by Nathalie_B

It is amazing how all these buildings survived so many years. Most of the houses along the Wharf were built in 18-19 centuries when architects were demonstrating their talents by building houses for wealthy summer residents.

Newport Storm

by cjg1

Newport Storm is a local Rhode Island beer. It was advertised all over the place on walls, menus and in bars. we were in Cafe Zelda and I decided to try it for myself. It was not for me but was not horrible. So give a Newport Storm a try...you just might like it.

Somewhere a little less busy

by Geoff_Wright about Espresso Yourself Cafe

A short walk along the main road, from the dock area, and you will find the 'Espresso Yourself Cafe' A nice, clean cafe, with a reasonable selection of meals as I recall. Looking back now, I rather wish we had had time to eat at the Dockside, but it would have meant hanging around for rather a long time, waiting for a table vacancy. Oh well, perhaps next time, LOL! Various salads. I think Mary and I had the Tuna Salad, and blueberry muffins. All very nice, and not over expensive.

The Breakers

by lashr1999

The Breakers is a symbol of the Vanderbilt family's social and financial wealth in turn of the century America. It is one of the grandest of Newport's summer cottages. Nice to visit and see how the other half lives;)

visit some art galleries or antique shops

by lionreb

There are some very nice art galleries and antique shops in Newport. Many shops are found on Thames street , Bellevue Avenue, and a few on Spring st. Of course there are also restaurants on these thoroughfares and a bunch more on Broadway..
