The Architecture
by Geoff_Wright
Newport is an exceptionally clean, and fresh looking city. It just has a sort of 'WOW!!' feeling the moment you arrive. And there's so much to see. The majority of the fine old houses have been restored to their former glory, and one or two others seem to be crying out for the same treatment. Many of these houses are listed as of 'Historic Importance'
Local Radio Stations
by cjg1
In all of the rooms we have evr stayed, we always had a radio or sound system. It's nice to have music in the background and we like to have it playing when we are relaxing together. 93.2 is a pretty good local station and we always turne to dial to it when we are in the area.
Home of $24 meatloaf...what a ripoff!
by sgoletz2004 about Fifth Element
Ordered the meatloaf special, was astonished when I saw it on my bill for $24. The presentation was nice the flavor wasnt as good as my mothers. This price is $3 more than their most expensive entree. As far as I'm concerened this is fraud. After we paid this ridiculous price we spoke with the manager. He was an agressive, cocky, twenty something punk. Rather than listening to customer feedback (after we paid our bill) he began arguing that they use the finest ingredients. The fact is ground beef is ground beef and he had no way to justify a price of $24. He also put all the blame on the poor server saying she failed to tell us the price. Watch out here or you will leave salty!
Swanning through Mansions
by Smruti
On Bellvue Ave, there are lovely mansions owned and built by rich magnates by the names of Vanderbilt in the late 1800's and early 1900's. Treat yourself to a tour of these lovely halls....Gorgeous Italian Renaissance designed ceilings, evocative paintings, and exapnsive views of the ocean
The Beaches of Newport
by Pawtuxet
There are several beaches to choose from in Newport. You should definately drive Ocean Drive which takes you along the edge of the perimeter of the peninsula past park areas, rocky places to fish off the rocks, places to fly a kite.... or just plain enjoy the views. It will loop you right around to the business center of the city again. There is Easton's Beach where we just sat and enjoyed the views cause it was March... and only a few brave souls were out walking their dogs. Summertime would be the time to explore Gooseberry Beach, or...if you are invited....Bailey's Beach and Hazard's Beach. There are tons of beaches in Rhode Island. You'll find that some have surf, some very calm, some rocky, some with dunes. Because of the very irregular coastline, the waterfront can be extremely different at each turn. Have fun and enjoy them all!
How could I forget? You could do the CLIFF WALK which is a walkway that starts on Memorial Blvd just about 3 or 4 blocks beyond Bellevue Avenue... and ends over near Bailey's Beach. You'll be passing in front of some of the mansions...some of it is rough terrain. Check in with Newport Information Center for full info. on length and map location...or...
