Hotel outside of downtown
We were flying into Columbia, SC and driving to Charleston and thought we'd be arriving around 11pm so I chose a hotel outside of Charleston with easy access from the highway. Turns out we didn't arrive until 1:30am so I'm glad we didn't spend a lot of money on a historic district hotel as all we did was sleep there. We did pass the hotel without seeing it, it's right where I-526 ends and merges into highway 17. Some locals said it was too far from historic Charleston but we got up late and by then any traffic must have broken up, it was a quick and easy drive to get into Charleston.
Unique Quality: We booked directly with the hotel with an advance purchase rate of $75.65 which required registering as a Choice Privileges member. We got a king bed suite that could have slept four, the couch was a two person sofabed. Although we didn't need it, we had a small microwave and refrigerator. The Choice brand seems to be good for families with the larger rooms fitting four and facilities to make meals and included breakfast.
The bathroom was fine, the shower had plenty of hot water and pressure/ Toiletries were shampoo, conditioner, lotion and soap. There was a hairdryer.
Breakfast was included in our rate but we slept past the end time and didn't see what it included. We had stayed at a Comfort Suites a couple of weeks earlier in Indiana, the breakfast was adequate, definitely a plus for a family on a budget.
