More about Holiday Inn Charleston (Historic District)
Thank you, Kevin, for all you did!

Frankly, if it wasn't for the Concierge, Mr Kevin McQuade, my review would be a little lower. Not that the hotel is not nice (it is) or the staff unfriendly (they are, as is everyone in Charleston), Kevin's efforts and attention to detail in making our Charleston experience a very special one is unmatched. With his help and guidance, both myself and my best friend (read: wife) of 24 years agreed the time spent with him was the key factor in this vacation exceeding our expectations.
Thanks again, Kevin, for the great anniversary gift of sharing the little things that make for a memorable time in a beautiful venue.
Some suggestions, though, for anyone traveling to Charleston: 1) bring plenty of cash, as alot of things are paid in cash only, and the hotel will not extend the courtesy of cashing a check for you, even if you are a Priority Club member and have numerous credit cards and IDs to back yourself up (I don't use ATMs, but there are plenty of them around)! 2) bring alot of change (ie, dimes, quarters) as the Downtown Charleston area is full of metered parking places. 3) Make reservations for dinner (Kevin's help here is invaluable!), especially on weekends.
Great hotel, wonderful service

We stayed at the Holiday Inn historic district over the July 4th weekend. We only had a semblance of an idea of what we were going to do or see. That was all rectified when we met with the concierge Kevin McQuade (who looks a little like Donald Trump :) who set us up for the whole weekend with lots of things to see that were neat and unique and off the beaten track! Kevin is the main reason that we had a great time. Also, this holiday inn is not like your normal holiday inn. It is actually nice, spacious, and tastefully decorated. We are planning another trip!

If you are searching for the perfect hotel experience in Charleston, then this is it. Our stay took place 4th of July weekend. This is quite a busy time in the city and hotel but we were treated as if we were the only guests. Check in was effortless and the bellhop Shaun was refreshing and really enjoys his job. He was very helpful.
We kept hearing about Kevin, the concierge, and how wonderful he was and yes, he does remind us of Donald Trump. We met with him soon after check in and they were right. He is great and knows the city in and out. Within our meeting we had all the dinner reservations we needed for our trip and our day adventures were all mapped out.
With Kevin we felt that we already had a friend in Charleston. We decided to take a pedicab to dinner, they did not show up in time to make our dinner reservations so Baker, a front desk coodinator personally drove us to the restaurant and we arrived in time. I have never seen such a helpful and cheerful staff of a hotel ever. We will return and are planning another stay. We had a great stay!

Kevin (the ultimate concierge) is awesome! He recommended several places to see and eat and we had an amazing time. If you go to Charleston, stay at the Holiday Inn.
Not your typical Holiday Inn!

The location, staff and wonderful concierge made the Holiday Inn, Historic Dist a marvelous place to stay.
Many thanks to Kevin McQuade for setting us up with the Morris Island Lighthouse Tour (truly amazing) and Ed Grisham's Walking Tour (the best!) among many other things.
For a great "girls weekend", we recommend this hotel above the other places in town. And do stop at Kevin's desk first thing. He'll make sure you see and do it all!
Terrific, attentive staff

Every member of this hotel staff will exceed your expectations. Each member I encountered was attentive, cheerful and personable; the epitomy of customer service. My personal favorite though, was the concierge, Kevin. He loves Charleston and will do everything in his power to get you to love it too. His job is his passion, and it shows. Kevin hooked us up with such unique experiences - like the "singing chef", Robert, and the lighthouse tour. Let Kevin guide you through the Charleston experience while enjoying the beautiful, welcoming, well-maintained Holiday Inn.

Kudos to Kevin the concierge! Because of him my family and I had the best time in Charleston. He hooked us up with a full itinerary of tours and great restaurants. The staff is very attentive and if something was needed they were very quick to oblige. Will definitely go back!
Kevin Redefines "Concierge"!
by A TripAdvisor Member
We have been to Charleston twice together and my wife 2 additional times. Chief Concierge, Kevin McQuade, has directed us to fine restaurants, tours, and tour guides which have made Charleston our favorite!
The hotel personnel have always been pleasant and very helpful. The hotel beds are the best we've slept on and that review comes from B&B owners here in Cape May, New Jersey!
Stay here and walk to the visitor's center, museum, and downtown to experience Charleston!
Thanks Kevin!

Carriage Ride
by tamrahorn
I was wondering what it cost to go on a carriage ride at night time and if I have to book one in advance or just when I get to Charleston call and they will get me in that night?

The latest you're going to get a carriage tour here in charleston is the one that goes out at 5pm. Old South Carriage company is a really good one. All the carriage tour offices are located off of Market Street on Anson Street. They also have this great deal with doing a ghost tour with ghosts and legends of charleston, both very well known and knowledgable companies
