Good deal for the money, but car required

The hotel is split into two sections. The main section has rooms that are entered from the inside. The other section is dog-friendly and its rooms are entered from the outside. Chances are, if you booked this hotel through a discounter like hotwire, you'll be staying in the second section, but you'll have access to the main section for breakfast and facilities. The rooms are clean and there's a good free breakfast served in the main section of the hotel, but unfortunately the breakfast is cleared too early—around 9am—which doesn't make sense when someone is on vacation. The staff are very militant about clearing everything on time. One minute after nine o'clock means No Breakfast For You!

Unique Quality: Distance-wise, this hotel is close to the historic center of Charleston, but because it's located on the other side of the Ashley river, and there's no pedestrian bridge, you won't be able to walk to the historic center. The hotel is, however, located very close to a highway bridge and the drive to the historic city center is short. There is plenty of garage parking in the historic center, but you will need to pay for it.

The Worst

This hotel is one of the worst I have seen in the La Quinta chain and yes I am a member of famed Returns program but this is one I won't "return" to. The room was in a separate building from the main and was in dis-repair, old, dingy, smelly, smoked filled from adjoining room's vents, old matted carpets, broken doors with chisled corners, chipped paint, holes in walls and freeway noise. The river views along with many other ammenities they advertise here are only available in the main building on the one side of the hotel. This place needs to be closed for immediate repairs and renovation. The only good ting I would say is I did not pay full price which I would have slept in the car had they tried to charge me that rate. This hotel is crappy and the owners should be ashamed for taking good money from their guests for this fleabag. I would under no curcumstances stay here again nor will I even think about recommending this hotel to anyone.

Unique Quality: The grounds do have some charm but other than that the rooms in the building opposite the main are BAD, BAD, BAD!
