Reservations for the battery

by Ashweee

How would I go about making reservations at the Batter to hold a wedding?

Re: Reservations for the battery

by goodfish

I assume you mean at the park? Here's a link that should help. It looks like weddings at the park are limited to 25 people.

Travel Tips for Charleston

Eat the southern food, go to...

by WILDEFLOWER

Eat the southern food, go to the beach, plantations, aquarium, take a boat tour and dinner cruise, ride on a carriage tour, hunt for fossils and sharks teeth, walk a ghost tour and enjoy the sunrise and sunsets. I met my husband in Charleston. That is my greatest memory!

Shrimp boats docked at Shem...

by Stevel47

Shrimp boats docked at Shem Creek in Mt. Pleasant (just over the Cooper River Bridges from downtown). The creek is lined on both sides of Coleman Blvd with seafood restaurants. This has long been the place where people went for seafood in the Charleston area.

Charlestonians drive slowly....

Charlestonians drive slowly. Be patient.
Asking for the nearest copy of the NT Times will immediately identify you as a 'Yankee' (not my words).
Yellow grits are generally better than white grits. Try them.
Gullah is the local creole/dialect. It is generally incomprehenible. If approached by a Gullah speaker, nod politely and move on.

Boarding SSN 674, The Trepang

by Kentbein

The entire Navy Base is off the beaten path, so I suppose this is the most appropriate category for everything I will add to this Charleston Page. Charleston in itself is an excellent place to visit, so I highly recommend it to anyone for a vacation/exploration site. The US Naval Base in Charleston however, was a fabulously interesting place and is an experience I will never forget. Very much off the beaten track, but if you are ever priveledged enough to tour a US Navy Base, You are fortunate indeed.

Monck's Corner - Old Santee Canal Park

by grandmaR

The purpose of the canal was to shortcut the route planters from the interior of SC took to get their products to Charleston. They had been going down the Santee River to the Atlantic, and then had to go south along the coast to Charleston, which meant offloading the river barges into something more able to cope with the Atlantic. The canal connected the Santee River with the Cooper River which goes right down into Charleston. Most of the canal is now underwater in Lake Moultrie since the building of a dam on the river.

There is an interesting museum on the site which details the building of the canal, and also the natural history of the area.
