A charming Charleston inn
The Meeting Street Inn is a lovely historic inn biult in the 'Charleston Style' - single room width, piazza running the length - which you won't find anywhere else in the world. It's a lovely building, with attentive and friendly staff. The services included a continental breakfast, a wine and cheese reception in the afternoon, and a nightly turndown service. The breakfast was pretty standard to any hotel, and since I'm not big into wine and was out most of the day, I didn't try the reception. Turndown service was unncessary, but I suppose some people like that.
I picked this inn because it was recommened to me by a co-worker. Having never been to Charleston before, I wanted to stay somewhere that was given the thumbs up by someone I know. Now having stayed there, and seen what else was available first hand, I might choose somewhere else. It's a nice inn, don't get me wrong, but just not quite for me. I would recommend it for couples of all ages, or for a girls weekend.
Unique Quality: The single best attribute for this inn is it's location. Situated right at the mouth of Market Street, you can easily walk to anywhere within the historic district. The only attractions that were a bit of a walk were the Visitor Center, Aquarium, and Ft Sumter tours. Still walkable, but in the heat of the day, you may want to take the DASH.
Another good quality was the price. In my research, I found the Meeting Street Inn to be slightly less expensive than the other inns in the area. Depending on the season, you might find a room for $140 a night - my own stay was just a bit more.
