Travel Tips for Columbia

Capital City Bombers Baseball

by sambarnett

The Bombers of Columbia take the field at Capital City Stadium, a very bland, generic stadium. Constructed in 1991, baseball has been played at this spot for much longer, although nothing on the original grandstand exists. The stadium holds 6000 but rarely draws that many. There is talk of either moving the franchise or building a new facility near downtown.

African-American History Monument

by b1bob

This monument pays tribute to the contributions South Carolina's black citizens have made to and for the state. The monument has 12 panels from the auction block, the War Between the States, emancipation, Jim Crow, the civil rights movement to present day.

First Presbyterian Church

by acemj

Along with Trinity Church, First Presbyterian is another historically significant religious site in Columbia. It was first organized as a congregation in 1795 and the cemetery has some interesting and historical gravestones that are worth a stroll.

In a short period (less than 1 hour) you can travel from downtown in City center and then be out in the country with many acres of farmland.
