Moving to Columbia

I will be moving to Columbia ths fall, and would love for anyone to let me know what to expect out of the little city? Perhaps some hot spots, nice restaurants, pubs, etc. I would love to know more.

i live in greenville, about 90 miles north of columbia, so i can't be much help with local places, but i can tell you this. don't know where you are moving from, but columbia is the hottest (temp wise) place in the state, so best get prepared for the awful humidity :(( gatorgirl
Travel Tips for Columbia
Columbia's social gathering point

Finlay Park located on the edge of downtown, not only provides excellent views of downtown, it also is a great gathering place for locals. Last time I was there, it was a warm day in early spring. In fact it was the first 80+ degree day of the year, and the sunny skies really brought out the crowds. It was also Kids Day, which had the park packed with little ones and big ones alike all having a great time. Every time I've been in Columbia, Finlay Park has been a rather happening place.
Pickup games

On the campus of the University of South Carolina campus, you'll find outdoor, cement basketball courts that can be accessed by anyone who is looking for a good game. It reminded me of pickup games that I used to play in all the time while attending the University of California at Riverside.

These stained glass windows above the second floor lobby in the State House are truly impressive. They were created by a time consuming process that is no longer practiced and that you'll learn about during the video tour.
mann simons house

the mann simons house was bought by celia mann prior to the civil war. celia mann was a freed slave and one of a few free blacks to own property in south carolina. the mann simons house was owned by decendants of celia mann well into the late 20 th century. the mann simons house is listed on the national register of historic places and is open to the public by tour. see the attached web site for tour information.

A: "Do you mean "Hot" as in heat? If you do, then you would be correct. But "Hot" as in Nightlife and things to do...well, I would say "Hot" is overstating things.
