Mark and I toured Columbia, South Carolina together on 27 March 2004. The photo was taken by Candice, the waitress at the Liberty Tap Room and Grill. No, Richie hasn't convinced me to become a beer conoisseur. Mark was the only one to have beer. I did, however, have some water. Richie might like this place.
maurice's barbeque has been a columbia institution for 61 years. maurice's barbeque is made with an unique mustard based sauce. pictured is the original maurice's piggy park in west columbia. there are twelve locations in the columbia area. check out their website for locations and directions. the owner, maurice bessinger caused a stir several years ago when he refused to take down the old "stars and bars" south carolina state flag from his restaurants however, what ever your politics he makes an unusual and tasty product.
This monument is located on the Sumter Road side of the Capitol grounds. I think it is the Sumter monument, memorializing the fort in Charleston which was fired upon in 1861 marking the beginning of the Civil War.
South Carolina was one of the last states for me to pick up as I close in on my goal of seeing a little of the U.S. Picked for its proximity to Congaree National Park as well as a highly rated zoo, we stayed here for a few nights on our trip through the southeast.
