The downtown skyline is not overwhelming and awe-inspiring, like others I've seen, but it does have an interesting mix of older buildings with intricate architectural details, and newer buildings, like the one in the background of this photo, the SouthTrust Bank corporate headquarters, the tallest building in the state.
Lexington is about a twenty minute drive from downtown Columbia and is really considered a suburb. It's a relatively wealthy community with a lake and a small, but charming downtown. I've only been here once, but it was for a great evening at the Main Street Cafe, where I partied like a Greek rock star. Interested? Read more about it, here
Riverbanks Zoo and Botanical Gardens
(plus Lights Before Christmas)
This is an exceptional zoo, with beautifully landscaped gardens. Remember, Columbia is HOT, so if you plan on visiting in the summer months, go in the early morning (the zoo opens at 9).
I've been to this park a couple times and it's never been too crowded. In the summer however, it's supposedly a happening place to kick back, have a picnic or just relax on some grass.
It opened in 1991 and concerts are held on the grass in the summertime. There is a cool man-made waterfall and stream that cascades downward from the highest part of the park to the fields below. The views to downtown are also great.

A: "Do you mean "Hot" as in heat? If you do, then you would be correct. But "Hot" as in Nightlife and things to do...well, I would say "Hot" is overstating things. There are..."
