conway south carolina
conway is a charming town located on the waccamaw river in northeast south carolina. conway is the county seat of horry county south carolina. conway was established in 1734 and was originally named kingstown. during the revolutionary war the battle of bear bluff and the battle of black lake were fought near conway. after the revolutionary war the town was renamed horry after general peter horry in 1801. the town was again renamed conwaysbourough and the name was shortened in 1886 to conway. of interest to the tourist is conway's historic buildings and homes many of which are listed on the national register of historic places. also conway offers fishing and boating opportunties on the waccamaw river. for those interested in american history and southern culture conway is a very worth while place to visit in northeast south carolina.
