We enjoyed this gift store. They had a large variety and the customer service and southern charm is the best! Really nice Gallery. Say hi to the Manager Gloria Zeller. Local prints, sandals, books, glass items with Edisto Island on them and many more beautiful things to look at. average

Travel Tips for Edisto Beach

Fishing,Crabing Shrimping

by WILDEFLOWER

There are many inlets that come out of Edisto into the ocean. We saw a lot of people with nets and cages catching shrimp and crabs. The blue crabs are the best eating that aI have had. I think there are places to rent the nets and the crab cages for the day!

The Bay

by hobgoblins

Palmetto Avenue runs along Edisto Beach, the popular place to see and be seen in this tiny island community. However, to escape from possible crowds, try the lesser-trafficed beach on the bay.

There, you can watch dolphins leap past you throughout the day, while collecting shells not found on the main beach. It's more of a family environment, and more private, with only locals usually enjoying some sun in the early Spring.

To get to the best access route, take Palmetto down and around the big bend, almsot to where the shrimping boats are docked on the back bay. There are a few public access paths that lead to this smaller beach, with room for parking on the grass.

Edisto

"Let's go to the beach."

I've visited Edisto Beach, South Carolina every spring, for as long as I can remember. It's my favorite place in the world, and for good reason.

Edisto is unlike most spring break destinations, especially for 20-somethings. It has somehow avoided the commercialism that pollutes other east-coast beaches. However, I'm not sure how long this untouched beach will last.

"An Evolving Island"

In the past few years, both Patti Labelle and Mel Gibson have purchased beach houses on the island. Hollywood has arrived. The only grocery store remains to be the Piggly Wiggly, but the island officially has a gas station. That's a sure sign that the end is near, right?

The main "downtown" of Edisto Beach consists of a few surf shops, a few souvineer shops, the Piggly Wiggly, Subway, the gas station (if it's still in business), and a video rental shop. Nearby are a few other quirky shops, but Edisto is definately not the place to go if you consider vacation a time to shop until you drop.

"So Why Go?"

I've never been to Edisto in the summer, and I'm thankful for that. Word is, the beaches become more and more crowded with inlanders each year. Edisto before May is gorgeous. The beaches are full of shells and other treasures, the relaxed atmosphere is wonderful, and you feel like you have all the time in the world to lounge about and soak it all in.

Come to Edisto - just don't tell everyone else where it is!
