"first afternoon- Hot and breezy"
Sheer joy of being able to check in and get to the beach right away.
Sea was calmer than I expected, but good for kites right on the waters edge.
Perfect sunset. Plenty of variety in places to eat. The beach not as crowed this time of year as Tybee Island. I think most people come for golfing or boating.
"Bring a boogie board!"
The morning is the best time to go to the beach -- especially if storms are around near sunset. We had winds of 10-20 miles per hour during the 5 PM - 7PM hour. There are numerous activities all over the island and surrounding counties, but even when most crowded the beach was a great place to play, watch the birds and crabs, gather shells. The 90plus temps were not oppressive, the air was fresh - no sign of audio nor visual pollution.
"Save up for one good meal"
You can eat inexpensively, but save for at least one "grand" meal. Numerous fine restaurants within minutes of anywhere you might be staying. My favorite was a tiny place- KennyB's = New Orleans style breakfast, jambalaya, gumbo, close to Coligny beach.
HHI is a great place to park the car at the hotel and bicycle everywhere. IMPORTANT: call ahead and reserve a bicycle same time you reserve the hotel. Otherwise you will never have a set of wheels unless you bring your own.
