Where to stay?

I'm planning a trip to HHI later in the summer and need some advice as where to stay. Currently I'm looking at the Hilton Head Grand Hotel & Suites and also the Hilton Head Marriott Beach and Golf Resort. Can you give me any advice on either of these two places or recommend something else? I prefer hotel style accommodations rather than renting a villa, etc.

Thanks in advance for any advice you can give me,

Wish I could help you but I made the mistake of staying at the Hilton (large suite that smelled like mildew).

Hi, I just returned from Hilton Head. Spent 14 days in a rental
beach house in a private plantation with our grandchildren.
It was close on the beach and close to The Westin Hotel.
It would be my pick.

It has a beautiful beachfront. It also has good restaurants and other amenities.Indoor and outdoor swimming pools, music in the evenings, etc.
In fact its lovely Carolina Room serves the best Seafood Buffet
on HHI.The resort is located mid-island so it's less of a drive
or cab ride to other island restaurants and activities:
Shelter Cove Harbor where many sightseeing boats go from and
several different type restaurants and stores are.

We enjoyed The Palmetto Star dinner cruise from there in the evening.
Fun sunset Dolphin watches cruises that the kids enjoyed. etc.
The Shelter Cove indoor Shopping Mall and Shoppes on the Parkway are nearby. Also nearby is Port Royal Plaza with Walmart and other nice little restaurants: Street Meet, Reilley's Pub,etc. It's a very convenient location.
You'll enjoy Hilton Head. Don't miss a day to Savannah.

Go to www.tripadvisor.com

Use the link to Hilton Head Island. The HHIguy answers lots of
questions about the island. You'll get good information.
Have fun.

The other places you mention are fine too, but The Westin Hotel
is the former Intercontinental Plaza Hotel and was considered posh
and plush. We spoke to people of different ages while walking the
beach and they said that they were enjoying their stay at the Westin.
We've been going to HHI. for years and I'd pick it.

I think the Hilton oceanfront in Palmetto Dunes is a good choice. They have a wonderful beach and it is in the heart of hilton Head. I'm new to Hilton Head (only been there once), but I got a lot of good advice from some locals on the HiltonHeadLife.com message board. The best advice was Palmetto Dunes. All I had heard about was Sea Pines, but after visiting both plantations on my trip, Palmetto Dunes is definitely my first choice. Have a great trip!

My fondest memory was swimming in the headed pool in January while the pansies flourished in the gardens and the steam rose from the pool. The visiotrs walking by had on jackets but the water was wonderful. we also had a great time in the hot tub at night looking at the stars through the mist. And then there was my first encounter with an alligator on a bike path!

Stick with Burgers and Fries

by CristinaMIA about Resort at Sea Pines Restaurant

This restaurant was adjacent to our hotel/condo. My overall opnion of this place is that it is convenient if you are staying at the hotel next door. I wouldn't recommend seafood here. Its more a place to go for drinks and pizza, burgers, etc. I would go back to this place to grab a frozen drink and eat burger but I wouldn't recommend it as a "seafood restaurant". The VIEW is amazing here as you can watch the sea from every table and you are outside. Every night they have live music. NOTE the bar closes at like 9:30!! So get there early with a deck of cards, sip a pina colada and relax! We got the calamari which was not fresh, I got the peel and eat shrimp which weren't impressive and my sister got the coconut shrimp, which was TINY. The food quality and sizes were not worth the price.

Our rental house was along this stretch of beach. As you can see, the area was expansive and we had it pretty much to ourselves!

It was great fun plucking sand dollars from the water or having a sand castle competition--the kids usually won, of course. It also gave us each time to get to know our nephews and nieces a little better. I'm thankful for these special moments spent together.
