friendly bar/pub

by mermaidtail

We'll be traveling to HH for the first time. We're looking for the local pub where we can get a local feel and good food. Nothing fancy. Only requirements - good food, good beer and maybe a tv or two. Any suggestions?

Hello, did you make it to HH yet, (as of 6/16/06)?
How long were you there or how long do you plan on staying at HH?
What part on HH will you be staying if you have not been there yet?
HH is divided into "Plantations" or planned communities each w/ its own
restaurant/bars. hotels and in some cases there own harbor.
If you have not seen HH, than I may suggest going to google on the web and
do some research on the place before you blindly head there.
There is just too many friendly resturant/bars to list here. Are you
travelling alone, or just want a place to get away from others in your group
just to get some breathing room?
I've been to HH for 20 yrs and there is not bar there that isn't just
pickeled pink to have your business provided you show them how happy
you are to be there enjoying your vacation w/ a nice chardonnay or frozen
drink.
OK, here's a small list for you to ponder over while your planning your
next bar visit while on HH.
Aqua Grill & Lounge
Big Bamboo
Casey's
Charley's Crab
Hinchey's Grill
Hudson's on the Docks
Land's End Tavern
Marley's Grill
Old Oyster Factory
Quarterdeck
Salty Dog & the Wreck of Salty Dog
Surside Grill
Kingfisher
Harbortown Grill
Homeport
Parrot Cove Cafe
I enjoyed these all at one time or another.
Have a good time and enjoy the island

If you're going in the warm months, Salty Dog Cafe is good food and a great island feel. Old Oyster Factory has wonderful food, outside music and bar while you are waiting on the deck over the sound, and GREAT atmosphere, drinks, and service. Aunt Chilada's has great mexican food, pub feel, and great service, and San Miguel's has all of the above. Just don't visit San Miguels on Tuesdays in the summer unless you love crowds. Have fun! We're going there again 2 times this summer. Have been going there for the past 22 years and I'm only 37 years old! LOVE IT.

Travel Tips for Hilton Head Island

Take a walk

by tpangelinan

Take a walk on the beach, the sand is firm and the beach is wide a long. If you look down while you walk there are plenty of shells to find. It's very peaceful here and not to many people. Very relaxing.

Diner for the Locals

by grandmaR about Hilton Head Diner

I wanted to go out to one of the marinas - the one with the big fake lighthouse, but I found that there was an entrance fee to go out there. So we went almost all the way back to the entrance bridge to the island to the Hilton Head Diner.

This was a regular diner with a 10 page menu, and breakfast and lunch are available all day. It was in the AAA book listed as a place locals ate, but wasn't in any of the restaurant recommendations in the local tour books. I got the pot roast special (came with soup or salad and I got the chicken noodle soup), with mashed potatoes and green beans, and Bob got a hamburger. Dinner including tip was $18.84.

You must see the Harbour Town Lighthouse

by tpangelinan

The Harbour Town Lighthouse was built in 1970, this lighthouse is not maintained by the Coast Guard and is NOT officially a lighthouse, though it does have a beacon which does assist boats coming in the waterways. Charles E. Fraser developed much of the island and built the lighthouse. The lighthouse has a store at the top and has great views to reward you when you reach the top. It was built as a tourist attraction and has been most successful in becoming the identification symbol for Hilton Head Island.
