Lots of beach

We had breakfast both mornings here. Because it was early December they did not have their breakfast buffet but we could order al a carte from the menu, and we were served our breakfast. We had a fruit salad that was excellent and a full breakfast.

Unique Quality: The indoor pool is very nice here, especially for a winter stay. The grounds are kept up nicely no matter what season you visit.

More about The Westin Hilton Head Island Resort & Spa

Westin Hilton Head - July 2004

by TripAdvisor Member kaliasgirl

This hotel definitely misses its "premiere resort on the island" rating that I was told when making the reservation. It's no more than a 3 star hotel. The staff was fine, nothing exceptional. The concierge services were mediocre at best. We stayed on the club level and had continental breakfast and afternoon munchies and drinks included in the price of our room. It was okay, the food was adequate although getting a can of coke or bottle of water was like pulling teeth because they never had the lounge cooler stocked. The beach was pretty and the heavenly bed was very comfortable. Our room was nicely decorated and the lobby is beautiful. The pools are too small to accomodate all the guests though and they allow rafts in the pool, which it makes it even more crowded. The pool is open 24/7 and several times we were awakened by late night swim parties, which is hard for the staff to control. Westin needs to step it up a couple of notches for this resort to live up to it's 4 star rating.

Nice, but you get nickel and dimed

by TripAdvisor Member saxorob

Nice hotel, but hang on to your wallet. Hotel charges extra $8 day for coffee, newspaper, local phone calls, etc., none of which we used. Pool restaurant adds 18% automatically to all checks. The staff already knows they're getting tipped, so the service is therefore apathetic and slow. We enjoyed our stay and the great pool area, but wonder if we were to come back if there would be new additional new charges for each toilet flush or each time the air conditioning is turned on.

Don't expect good service here. You are on your own. The pools are too small and are in need of repair, the staff needs to take classes on hospitality, and don't be surprised if they charge you for flushing the toilet! Also, watch your wallets/purses closely, our car was broken into and believe me, the only thing the Westin cared about was making sure that other guests did not hear about it. I had to practically beg them to take our information and they acted offended instead of realizing how aweful our family was feeling at that moment.

Great Honeymoon! July 4th. 2004

by TripAdvisor Member noahb

My husband and I stayed at the Westin for our honeymoon after reading many bad reviews, and it was really a great place. We were upgraded to an Ocean Front room due to my Westin card status, and the best part was after we told the Concierge it was our honeymoon she sent us a bottle of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries! Complimentary, of course.

The only drawbacks were that the pools get very crowded, but that is to be expected when it's 95 degrees, and the waitstaff at the restaurants were not very good. The food was ok. Easy solution: Don't eat at the resort unless absolutely necessary. Overall, a great trip!

Westin Hotel on Hilton Head Island

by A TripAdvisor Member

We just returned from a week in Hilton Head and we stayed at the Westin Hotel and Resort. It was a very pleasant, trouble-free surprise. I expected, since we were using my husband's Starwood "points", to be put in the basement next to a loud family. (as the HHI Marriott Beach and Golf Resort did two years ago). But our room was everything they said - located on the concierge level (top floor), beach front, clean, no cigarette or chemical odors and the service was very warm and friendly and responsive. They employ a lot of people from Jamaica and they were just very friendly. The hotel also very graciously offered continental breakfast and happy hour treats for the "Club" floor guests. Good coffee, fresh fruit, cereal, breads, and in the early evening - beer, wine, good cheese and homemade dips. The attendants in this "Club" room were also very, very nice and helpful. Plenty of large, plush towels in our room. Our comfortable king-sized bed linens were 100% cotton and we had a light summer-weight down comforter. We also had turn-down service with spring water and chocolates provided. There are three restaurants in the hotel. We only ate at one of them- the bar/restaurant called "Turtles". Alas, it was smoky as bars can be, but more importantly the food (we had shrimp cocktail and sandwiches) was not very good - quite mediocre with lots of room for improvement, but would do if it's late and you are very hungry. The service was slow and spotty considering there weren't many people there, and our waitress had to be hunted, then likely to forget what you asked for. The bar had a singer/guitar player who was good and we enjoyed that. The concierge graciously refunded our money for one of the bar meals when told of the experience. We were very pleased with the Westin and will return to it every year if possible.

Overall, great stay.

We stayed at the Westin Dec. 22-25, 2004. The staff was very helpful and professional. The food was outstanding. Location and view of the ocean excellent. The room was very nicely decorated. We did have a few problems with housekeeping not replenishing towels, emptying trash cans, or really cleaning the room, but the staff took care of it when we complained. The ice machine on our floor was broken the entire length of our stay. We did go during the Christmas season so housekeeping staff may have been short. The room air was extremely dry. The hotel brochure listed humidifiers available by request. However, when we reequested a humidifier the staff seemed surprised and, of course, they didn't actually have any at the hotel. Overall, I would recommend and go again.

Nice View

by TripAdvisor Member brockey

We stayed a the Westin December 28th thru January 2nd. The view from our room was fantastic. The staff was very kind and helpful. We arrived very late at night and was treated nicely. They gave us three morning breakfast buffet vouchers. It was outstanding. We also eat the New Years Eve buffet and I have never seen so much food. The Carolian Grill was very growded that evening but the staff again were right on the ball. The only negative thing was the room was very hot and the air dry. At that time of the year the turn off the air. Housekeeping did bring up a box fan which helped some. I think it needs some remodeling done. The were working on the pool but i the hall ways need cleaned up. The fitness center was nice and you could use it plus the hot tub outside. We would go again but for five days I prefer an villa with more room. It was in the 60's and 70's and beautiful sunshine.

Great location

We stayed at the Westin for a night in Deceber. It was a great experience. The room service was excellent. All the staff was friendly and helpful. We were upgraded to an ocean view room, which was wonderful. The hotel also has bikes available for rent. (Althought, I thought that the $12 resort fee in the winter was excessive) Overall, great!

Beautiful Beaches, incredible sunrises

"sunrise on beach"

Not to be missed....as good as the best sunsets i've seen.

Stay at the Westin Hilton Head and get an ocean front room on 3rd floor or higher...you won't be disappointed.
