Carolina Winds

Just returned from a week at the Carolina Winds on 7/29/05. The room was okay; we had a one bedroom angle front suite. The BAD: One of the queen size beds was too hard to sleep on. If you do not get up at 5:30-6:00AM to get a seat at the pool you have to sit along the pool. One person comes down and places towels on every seat and they give the seats up to people they want to. There is no life guard. The housecleaning service was TERRIBLE. They even left a blank envelope on the mirror upon our arrival asking for their tip. We had to ask them to come in change the sheets and vacuum. One more thing if you are a plus size person the showers are small.
The GOOD: The view was gorgeous; we stayed on the 11th floor. We had an excellent view of the ocean and swimming pool. Unit nicely equipped with pots, pans, etc., helps you save from having to go spend money eating out daily.

What A Great Stay

My family and I just arrived back home from a 7 nights stay at the Carolina Winds. We have been going to Carolina Winds for the last 5 Years and would not think about trying another motel not even a new one. We enjoy the location of the property the great outdoor pool and lazy river. We feel that we are part of the family when we stay at Carolina Winds. The staff has always been very friendly and the rooms have been clean. We have already made our reservations for next year.
WE LOVE CAROLINA WINDS.
Better than expected

My family just returned from our week long vacation in Myrtle Beach. With concern, we booked a room at the Carolina Winds. When we arrived, we were greeted by a very friendly member of the front desk. Everyone we had contact with on the Carolina Winds staff was great. Our housekeeping was very good. Our room was always cleaned before 11:00 am everyday. The Carolina Winds is older and some rooms are not as up to date as others. Our room was one of the older rooms (207), but it was very clean and well maintained. The lobby, pool and other grounds was in very good condition, considering the amount of guest at this time. Even though we were on the second floor, our room was quite and had a fanstic view of the beach.
I would stay at the Carolina Winds again and would recommend it to others looking for a good room at a fair price.
Loved our stay!

We spent 12 nights at Carolina Winds. We took another couple with us who had never been there before and they also had a great time. The only shortfall was that they were repairing the balconies on the oceanfront units and so we were not able to enjoy our balcony - - we were notified beforehand of the situation but decided to stay in the unit regardless. We will definitely go there again.
We met some great folks there from many different parts of the USA and Canada. The staff was outstanding! Great job, folks!
Great Vacation

This was our second time at Carolina Winds. We stayed in a 3 bedroom/2 bath condo. Very nice, airy and clean. The view from our wrap-around
balcony was worth the price. We were with a large family group and
those of us in the 3 bedroom condos all seemed to have the nicest
rooms. Some of the other 1 bedroom rooms were a little outdated and
dark but adequate for our needs. No complaints from anyone. The staff
from the housekeeping , to the restaurant staff to the front desk
staff were all very friendly and helpful.
If you like old run down hotels then this one is for you!

A friend recommended this to me but I have to tell you it was not clean, very moldy and smelled of smoke in the hallways and elevators. If you like old, run down hotels, then this one is for you. Definitley unclean and not kept up. They should tear it down and build something new.
Would not recommend it to anyone. There are a lot nicer ocean front places in Myrtle beach for the same amount of money.

We booked a "Buy 4 nights get 1 night free" special over the internet. The photos on the website were nice and it had been recommended by someone else to us. When we got there, our room just didn't feel clean. It was musty and dark. The lighting was terrible. It needs a lot of updating. I like bright and airy rooms. The bathroom and kitchen were not clean. There was grease all above the stove. The microwave was ancient. The drawer that goes under the stove had food drips on the handle. In the bathroom, the backwall of the sink was dirty with sand, I guess. I checked to see if it would wipe up; sure enough it did. The area where the commode and the shower are had hair in the corner on the floor. The base board (not real wood but that plastic stuff that they stick to the wall) was pulling away from the wall all the way around and was caked with hair and dust. It was just gross! I would not walk barefoot in that room nor would I want to have a small child on the floor there. One good thing was that we told them we weren't satisified and asked if we could stay the one night since our stuff was already in the room and then leave. They did allow that, thankfully. We ended up at the Crown Reef.
moldy winds

My husband nicknamed this motel"moldy winds." We never felt clean there. There was a fishy smell. The sofa and chairs were so wet that one could not sit on them. This is a very old place. There are motels next door which are much newer. This is where we will stay.
Would not stay here again

We would not stay there again. Room was dark and musty. Room had a fishy smell. Ceiling actually had mold on it. Our balcony door did not open or close - so we had to leave it open the entire time to use the balcony. Overall just did not feel clean at all in this room. Will never return.

The only good thing about this hotel is that it is on the beach and the pools. The hotel itself is outdated. We stayed on the top floor and the ceilings had leak marks from the roof. Our room was labeled "non smoking' but smelled so bad of smoke I had to go buy room freshener. The furniture was dusty and the bathroom had mold. The carpeting on the balcony was constantly wet from the dripping air conditioning. The building only has 2 elevators which makes it difficult when people are checking in and out with large amounts of luggage. With all of the new hotels being built in the area, I would try them next time. This hotel needs a make over.
