WORST HANDICAP HOTEL, MYRTLE BEACH

DO NOT! STAY HERE IF YOU ARE IN A WHEELCHAIR. my mom is in a wheelchair so they gave us a handicap room on the second floor. when we sit out on the balcony to see the ocean, all we look into are trees. it's difficult to see the ocean through all the trees. there is a HUGE hump in the floor going into the bathroom... helloooooo wouldn't you want it to be easy for a wheelchair to get into the bathroom???? there is a HUGE door saddle that i have to struggle to hold open the door while i struggle to get mom's wheelchair in the door!!!!! i'm all worn out just getting her in the door. SOOOO DISAPPOINTED!! she's 86 and we may not get another chance to vacation down here, BUT IF WE DO, IT WON'T BE AT OCEAN REEF RESORT!!!

More about Ocean Reef Resort

This Place Is a Dump!!

by A TripAdvisor Member

The Ocean Reef is a crumbling, dirty dump of hotel. The bed coverings in our room were soiled by spilled drink or food (don't bother asking the "management" of this disaster to rectify and shortcomings in accomodations - you'll be ignored).

The toilet didn't work properly - I had to fix it as the front desk ignored our request for a repair - even as simple as this.

The room was dirty, and smelled of mold. The bed linens and towels were threadbare and we had to ask to have an additional toilet paper supplied to our room after we ran out.

This was our first trip to Myrtle Beach and our last to the Ocean Reef "Resort". People stay here for golf packages and because it's cheap.

You get what you pay for at the Ocean Reef. Beware, Beware, Beware!!!

great time

We just got back from a visit to myrtle beach (oct20-25) and stayed at the Ocean Reef Resort. I think for the price it is a great buy and found our accomadations just what they advertised. We had a suite room, 6th floor with 2 queen size beds, a small kitchen and two balconies overlooking the ocean. The room was huge and the room service was fine.
I agree they could supply some cleaning supplies and coffee filters as already mentioned but it was no big deal to buy them when we were out.
Also found the pools and downstairs bar very nice along with the exercise room. Would reccommend this motel to anyone looking for a good value and wants to save a few bucks. Best attractions we saw were Brook Green Gardens and Ripleys aquarium and best restaurant was The Boars Head at Bare Foot landings.

Very nice condo!

My husband, 4 sons (plus one friend) and I just got back from a fall trip to Myrtle Beach. We upgraded from the Sea Mist (which is really showing its age lately) to the Ocean Reef Resort's new South Tower with condos. We took a 3 bdr condo and weren't disappointed. The place was immaculate, very clean and nicely appointed. We loved the view of the beach from our two balconies. Plenty of space in the kitchen and both bathrooms good sizes. The beds are a little... hard (read: cheap) and they really should provide dishwashing detergent and a few other staples (like coffee filters, hairdryers, etc). But they have a washer/dryer combo right in the room, and that came in very handy with all our wet, sandy suits and towels, etc! The people were nice and friendly, but mostly just stayed out of our way unless we needed something. Parking could be better, but wasn't a huge issue. Pools/hot tubs were nice. Housekeeping was great about coming in, making beds and leaving clean towels and not messing with anything of ours. PLEASE - LEAVE THEM TIPS! Those poor girls are doing some dirty work for very little money, they deserve tips. The Dunkin Donuts store at 3001 King's Hwy was wonderful - the people are very nice, they have great coffee and donuts, and they even took pity on us and gave us some free coffee filters when we bought some of their freshly-ground coffee! Please make a visit to Dunkin Donuts while you're there - it's delish. We took the boys to Medieval Times dinner show. It was marginally good. We'd been to the one in Orlando, which was much better all the way around. But kids will love this - especially boys who are into Lord of the Rings-type things. Expensive, but worth the money if you have young ones who would like this type of thing. If you have triple A, you can get a discount (10%) but you have to ask for it!

Great experience everytime!

by A TripAdvisor Member

We have stayed at Ocean Reef on 4 or 5 occasions and have had a wonderful experience everytime. Twice we have taken a group of teenagers and we have had help from the staff with everything from extra pillows and towels to getting tickets to the shows we wanted to attend. The location is close to almost everything that interests us and it is a family oriented hotel. I have recomended Ocean Reef on many occasions to friends and family and plan to visit there every trip to Myrtle Beach.

Our Families Favorite Hotel

The Ocean Reef is a great hotel to stay at. The staff is very helpful and the quality of stay is worth the money that you spend. They have a wonderful resturant in the building that serves a fantastic breakfast. The staff is wonderful. We have stayed there every year. The location is far from the "strip" and there is limited traffic in the area.Overall I would highly recommend this hotel if you are looking for a quiet but fun time at the beach!

What a KNIGHT (and I do mean KNIGHT)

by TripAdvisor Member scooterbackstage

My Wife and I Stayed at the Ocean Reef from Sept. 8th through the 10th, 2003. Let me begin by telling you Check with the Resort Websitebefore buying through expedia or others, you may find a better deal. We got a great deal with one of their entertainment packages for 3 night stay and 1 show. We picked out Medieval Times. Thats where the Knight in the title comes in. If your going on vacation on a budget this was a great way to go. We added up the price of the regular Medival Times Reservations and by getting the package deal we cut the cost for the reservations in half. When we got to Medieval Times we upgraded to the preferred seating for only 12 bucks more and ended up in the front row of our area. Anyway When you make your reservation ask for floor seven or above for the best view of the beach. We stayed on the 14th floor with a great view. No major problems other than the we kinda had to work with the door to the balcony to get it locked and a lot of the snack machines only took change. O and remeber if you plan on taking prepaid calling cards, they charge you 50 cents everytime you use it. I would recommend going to a local grocery store versus the gift shop grocies, WHOO, a little to steep for me. There is a BI-LO not far from the hotel. The Pools were great with a lazy river and an indoor and outdoor pool and a 4 jacuzzies. The Beach was clean and wonderful to take one of those night strolls on with your loved one, and not to mention spending the day at. Staff was great. Parking not too bad and got great directions to all of the attractions. And I cannot stress this word to much COUPONS, COUPONS, COUPONS! You can get a lot at the resort.

Stayed here in May 2002 during their renovation....

by A TripAdvisor Member

My husband and I stayed here on our honeymoon in May 2002. The place was renovating, and was dirty on the outside. During our stay it was not very crowded, and towards the north part of south Myrtle Beach, so it was away from all the noise and traffic of the pavilion area. During our stay use of outdoor pool and whirlpool was VERY limited, however we did get use of their "sister" hotel next door and they had very nice factilies. Our room was clean and nice. We had two balconies, one facing the ocean, and one facing off to the side....this too was nice.
Staff was courteous, (when you saw them), mostly no one went out of their way for you. We will probably return now that the renovation is complete.

Very nice

Myrtle Beach was a lot of fun. There is a lot to do in NC and SC. The hotel was very nice. We stayed on the 10th floor. We slept with the balcony door open and slept to the waves. It was very peaceful. I recommend staying beachfront like we did. I enjoyed the pool and the game room.

Loved the resort

by A TripAdvisor Member

My wife and I stayed at the Resort between Christmas and New years and had a great time. We had a great room and all the services were outstanding. The golf package was priced right and the weather cooperated. It was our first trip to Myrtle Beach and it wont be the last. I would definitely stay at the Resort again. They really showed a good time.
