One of the Best Hotels in Myrtle Beach!!

My husband and I vistied the Sandy Beach Resort for our wedding anniversary and my 30th birthday, and our hotel stay was wonderful. The hotel is a newer high rise hotel and I though it was very beautiful. It looks like something you would see on Miami Beach or somewhere in Los Angeles, CA. All the staff was very friendly and professional. We stayed in the King Deluxe Suite in the Palmetto building. I thought the room was perfect. Our king sized bed was very comfortable, the sheets were cotton white with no stains, and the comforter felt like it had feathers and it was very comfortable. Our bathroom was roomy with ceremic tile floors, with clean white towels, and mini shampoos and soaps. The bathtub was big and it was also a hot tub when you turned the jets on. The kitchen was spotless and it included a dishwasher, stove and refrigerator. They also provide you with dish soap and bars for the dishwasher. The living room area was nice and it also had a pull down bed, so we were able to sleep in the living room also and look right out at the beach at night. I also loved the balcony. It was a good size balcony and it was kind of a dome shaped. The room also had a washer/dryer set and thats very convenient when you can wash your clothes in your own room and not have to run to find a laundry facility.
The only thing that I didn't like was that we had to park across the street and we had to walk about 1/4 a mile everytime back and forth from the hotel to our parking spot. Also, they didn't give you the small coffee packs where you can make your own coffee in your room. But, overall the hotel is wonderful and very clean. The interior lobby area is very modern and you will love it. I would definetly recommend a friend & family to stay here. I will look forward to my next trip to MB and I hope to stay here again.

Unique Quality: It is a very new and modern hotel. The loved the updated, new feel to it. The pools are nice also.

Like a condo, but better

We stayed at this resort on the advice of a friend and all in all I would have to say that we were pretty pleased with it.

For starters, it’s set up like a typical condo unit. We had a one bedroom but it was in the newer part and we were on the 16th floor. With an oceanfront room we had a great view of…the ocean. Seriously, it was very nice. Panorama all the way.

The living area had a large television screen with a couch, coffee table, and dining room table for four. It was a little small, but it worked. The kitchen was fully stocked and the bathroom large enough to move around comfortable in. Our tub had jets but I didn’t use them. The bedroom had 2 queen beds, a large closet, and plenty of drawer space. It also had a television. There was a washer and dryer in the hallway area.

The cons were that the television had basic cable but did not have movie rentals. This would have been nice, especially since we were there in off-season and therefore there wasn’t much to do in the evenings. I was also a little leery of the balcony because it didn’t seem very sturdy for my 4 year old and he could easily open the door and go outside. It kept freaking my husband out. We haven’t had this problem in other hotels with similar balconies.

The swimming pool area was nice. There was a medium sized pool, a hot tub, and a lazy river indoors. There were no decorations, however, and that was a little strange. It was kind of like swimming in a warehouse. I guess they just threw the area on as an afterthought. The water was fairly warm, though.

The outside pool area was a lot nicer with a couple of hottubs, two pools, and a children’s pool. These were not heated, however, except for the hottubs. My son really wanted to swim in the children’s pool but it was like taking a dip in ice cubes.

You could literally walk out of the back door and be on the sand in seconds so the location was terrific. Like a lot of Myrtle Beach properties, however, there really wasn’t anything to walk to except for the amusement park which was closed during that time of year.

In addition, the parking lot was across the street and that was inconvenient.

No restaurant onsite, but many local places delivered and we took advantage of this.

The rate we got for our stay was terrific. I think we paid $60 per night. I would definitely return again, if just for the sake of the cleanliness and location to the beach.

The the realistic truth if you are going to Myrtle Beach

by A TripAdvisor Member

After reading the reviews it occurs to me that there are a slight difference in opinion, so I will give mine. I was there not a week ago and had a wonderful time. I had to wait for my room a few hours but unlike others I do understand that some rooms become OPEN before others and that they differ in room nights and room types, leading to having to wait until 3 for check-in. The truth is after staying there for years upon years and staying at other places I have gone no where better than the Sandy Beach Resort. Every hotel will have its negatives and if you look for them they will be found. What I am trying to say is that I stayed in one of there Jacuzzi Suites for a week and found the place clean, comfortable, and pleasing what everyone looks for in a trip. I will go back anyday.

Don't know where you stayed, but this place was great!!

After spending 5 nights at the Sandy Beach Resort in Myrtle Beach, SC (7/25/04 to 7/30/04), I wonder if some of these other reviewers stayed at the same place I did!! This place was A1!! I spent $168.00 per night plus tax and still feel that I got a great deal!! The lazy river, the hot tubs and the pools were cleaned every morning (a 2 hour process from 6a-8a), our room was very clean and perfectly laid out (a king jacuzzi suite in magnolia) and the staff was very helpful and friendly. It was very difficult to find a place for my crew (5 kids from 4 to 17, plus my wife and I), but this place met all of our needs.

If you need a nice, clean place to stay, try this place, and stay in the magnolia building. You won't be disappointed.

loved our stay there

we just stayed 3 nights at sandy beach resort we really liked it the 2 outside pools werent heated but the indoor was also there was a glass wall they had raised so u could be in shade but still enjoy ocean breeze.they had some 1 cleaning pools and area each morning we was there and each afternoon some1 stacked the chairs together so wasnt in the way they had a nice grassy area to lay out in and picnic tables and grills we stayed in the newer magnolia buliding and i dont know i would want to stay in the older 1.but the magnolia was nice.people that didnt like the "roaches"they are beach bugs and you cant stop them we saw 1 the whole time we were there and that was because i left sliding door open to balcony and it flew in.everything in room was clean maids where great when we checked in we didnt know if we were going to stay 2 or 3 days they said no problem let us know early that morning on 3 day we did and glad we did.we will b back there next year but i will ask for magnolia building.we stayed on 6 floor right next to macagoo bar they music was played on fri and sat night we could hear if from the balcony and very little sometime in the living room but we left door open while sleeping and never hear it and was up late each night

No Problems/ Good as Usual

My family of 4 spent 7 nights at the Sandy Beach Resort July 31st to Aug. 7th, 2004. This was our 2nd stay here in 3 years. After seeing some of the negative reviews I was concerned that somehow something had gone terribly wrong since our last visit in the summer of 2002. Not true at all. As with any property there was a little wear since last time but we were all completely satisfied with our stay, the property in general and our room. We love this place because of the location with it's close proximity to everything you would ever need or want to do. 3rd Ave. South makes it easy to get around without having to deal with traffic on Hwy. 17 or Ocean Blvd. Family Kingdom Amusement Park is across the street and Family Kingdom Water Park is next door. The 2nd Ave. pier is 1 block north for those who like to fish or walk on the pier. The pier has fireworks on Wednesday nights at 10:00 that you can watch from your balcony. I thought everything was kept very clean and our room in the Magnolia building was nice and spacious with 2 queen beds, a murphy wall bed, sleeper sofa, kitchen and balcony. The staff was friendly and helpful and the maid service was great. When we arrived we discovered our kitchen was missing a frying pan and baking pan. We called the front desk and were told they would bring replacements up later. We expected later in the day or the next morning. Were we surprised when in less than 15 minutes someone from housekeeping showed up with a brand new stainless skilet and a whole set of bakeware. We didn't see any open drug use or even any unacceptable behavior from any of the families while we were there. We had no concerns letting out 12 year old and 8 year old have run of the property while we lounged by the pool. This is one of the few places that you get all the amenities and some shelter from the sun if you are sun sensitive. We love the beach but my wife is sun sensitive and can't tolerate laying in the sun and baking all day and I prefer not to. You can sit in the shade under the building by the indoor pool and enjoy the breezes. I might say that if you are extra sensitive to extranious noise you should request a room on the north end of the tower to keep you away from the sound from the live band at McAdoos Beach Bar. It didn't bother us and we were on the very south end of the building on the sixth floor right next to the bar. You couldn't hear it at all in the front bedroom and barely in the living room where the kids slept on the murphy bed and sleeper sofa. I will say the two tower elevators seem a little overwhelmed with the volume of use and because of all the wet people coming and going they can smell a little musty and damp but they really do try to keep them clean. I didn't mind taking the stairs at times. We will definately stay here again. WE LOVE THIS PLACE! Don't be tricked by a bad review from someone who, in my mind, has blown up over some little nit-picky detail of their stay that didn't suit them. This place is about as good as it gets in Myrtle Beach for the money. I've been coming here for over 40 years so I should know.

the truth

by A TripAdvisor Member

Okay, I read the reviews before and after my stay, and here is my honest opinion. I'm 20 years old, and went with my girlfriend and 3 of my buddies on their "senoir week" trip. This is when all the seniors go to the beach and cruise and stuff. I WOULD not go during those times(my stay was may 31 to june 6 2004) if you don't want to hear loud music and see half naked and somtimes naked people. Of course, this is not the hotel's fault. This also contributes to the stink in the elevators. Whenever we saw something that we didn't like and reported it to management, it was checked on or handled immediately. My friends and I got loud one night, and we had an employee threatening to throw us out if we didn't settle down. The parking does suck, but if you hit third avenue, you can get the light and go wherever you need to be. The carpet was slightly stained, but it's not like you're going to be eating off of it. I saw NO bugs, except when some would fly by or land on the private balcony. Come on, it's outdoors, there WILL be bugs. The pools and jacuzzis were NEVER dirty, and were cleaned twice while we were there. There are restaurants all over the place, and I tell you now, order delivery from SAM'S DELI. It is great food and it's cheap. We ordered from there so much, they knew us by name. They have irons at the front desk, but if you pack well, you won't need em, and if you're in for a real vacation, you won't care. The beach and pools are awesome. The front desk, at night, mainly the old guy with the ponytail, is a jerk, and so is security. But you know, I talked to em all of twice the whole trip. The housekeepers are nice. Our bathroom was across from the kitchen, but it had a door, and two other doors, one on either end of the kitchen. The sheets and beds were clean, and so were the sofas. It's a hotel people, don't expect everything to be spotless, it's not like they can afford to replace everything everytime it gets dirty or messed up. I actually miss the place and I just came home today. If you're looking to be waited on hand and foot, don't come here. If you're looking for some posh luxiourious place, don't come here. If you're looking for a nice place to stay, with great views, and good service, then this is your spot. If you're on a tight budget, this place is great. Everything is within walking distance. We were all young, so we walked 1-2 miles to go places, just to enjoy the scenery. Hopefully, I'll be back next year, stinky elevators and all. Feel free to contact me if you have serious questions.

Okay, but not as advertised

by A TripAdvisor Member

This was the first vacation for my family, so I researched many different hotels on the internet. I liked the fact that they had a two bedroom unit, so my husband and I could be in the same room with our young children but still have some privacy. The problem was this type of room was only available in the older building and was way overpriced. I realized this after we were lied to at check-in. We were told that our room was not ready, so we went to the pool to wait. As I looked up at the rooms, I noticed that many of the rooms were empty. It just so happened that our room had been ready from the moment we got there, but yet we had to wait three hours, until my husband, who is a diabetic, started to get weak and I had to go to the front desk to see if we could get into our room. By the way, we were told that we would be called on our cell phone when the room was ready and no one called. The elevator was hot, musty, and very unstable. It bounced every time you moved. The room wasn't much better. They were very small, the exterior doors were not sealed and let light and heat come through easily. The kitchen, or should I say kitchenette was small and had old appliances. The hot tubs were nice, but the pools and lazy river were freezing. The location was good being next to a Family Kingdom, but too noisy at night due to a nearby club of some kind. We will definitely NOT stay here again in the future.

never again

My family and I stay in Myrtle Beach every year, usually at the Breakers. We decided to try this resort mainly because of the prices. It was a huge dissappointment. There are no employees to keep the resort maintained throughout the day and evening. They let the pool stay open all night so when you try and go to the pool early the pool is filled with beer cans, cigarette butts, food, ect...
the elevators smell as if someone died in them. there is no easy access to a restroom. With noone overseeing whatgoes on in the resort, there was plenty of drug use out in the open in the pool area. When you went to your room and tried to sit on the balcony, if you were downwind you were gauranteed a "contact high". While we were sitting at the pool a man way too drunk got up and urinated right next to his chair. This is deifinitely not a place you want to take your children to. If you do decide this is all for you, the magnolia building is the place to stay. The rooms were fairly nice, but friends of ours staying in the palmetto building were very upset. it was very dark and dingy.

Great time

by TripAdvisor Member needmorevacations1

We just stayed at this hotel July 29/aug. 1 2004. We had a great time. Yes, there were a few neg things such as the pools and lazy river were very cold, the elevators were a little smelly(a damp smell),we could not get extra pillows that night and it was hard at checkout(no available parking or carts), but compared to the positives it was great. Our room(719) was very clean and nice. The pools, hottubs and lazy river were very clean. You step off the property and onto the beach. You have a general store accross the street along with family kingdom and the water park. Our view was great and the balcony size was nice. We have stayed at quite a few hotels(resorts etc.) in Myrtle and this has been our family favorite so far. Everyone has good and bad experiences at the same place, but ours was very positive.

Hated Myrtle Beach

by A TripAdvisor Member

At first I thought Myrtle Beach what a great time I am going to have. Well it turns out I stayed in this hotel and I soon as I checked in there was hell. My guests and I are from New York and they did not like that. They gave us a hard time. I had a broken bathroom light which it took them three days to fix. My room's air conditioner did not even have knobs on it. My cousin used her tweaser to turn the dial. Also, there was roaches in my room. Supposly they crawled upon the trees and therefore, the hotel was unable to controll them. Honestly, it was disgusting. Then four days later and a whole slew of complaints from my room about the accomidations we were then kicked out. Supposly we were blasting the radio at a late hour. Funny thing is we did not have a radio the rooms do not come with them. So we had went to another hotel. The bottom line is this hotel was not what it seemed to be and I would not go back their again even if you paid me.

have loved it for years

by A TripAdvisor Member

my family and i have been staying here for years. the staff is always friendly and tries to make everything the way it should be. we love the convience of the waterpark and family kingdom and the easy paking. the pools are cleaned every morning and the grounds around them are also cleaned at that time. if you have a complaint about something just pick up the phone and call the front desk and someone will be right on it. you can't always blame the staff for something not being right maybe you should look around at the people you are talking about. they do not have any respect for the property, or the people around them. so we will be back for our 4th trip this season at the sandy beach!!!
