First time visit in July
by jimkpa
Is there any difference between the town of Myrtle beach and North Myrtle beach? I saw a post about the Purple lit resort the Crown Reef. I will check there but is there any others recommended to compare possibly same amentiies but lower cost?
Thanks

Two different worlds, although all of the beaches are pretty nice. North Myrtle Beach is more laid-back and family-oriented; Myrtle Beach is noisier and appeals to a younger crowd. Myrtle Beach has the amusement park and tacky shops. When you get away from the beach areas and golf courses, though, it's all about the same - mile after mile of restaurants, hotels and motels, t-shirt shops, etc. Kind of like Pigeon Forge, Branson, etc.

The biggest, freshest crab legs on a huge buffet
by Hlthors about Bennetts Calabash Seafood
We went to several seafood buffets and you usually have to pay extra for crab legs. NOT HERE!!! Bennetts had the best crab legs I have ever eaten in my life!! Nice family atmosphere. Full menu was also available. There is a coupon in the Myrtle Beach guide we used as well. Crab Legs
A Tourist Haven

"Fish can be caught and eaten"
There are many water sports along the 25 miles coastline. At the north end are the boats to go out to the ocean to fish or other water activities. I had traveled this area for numerous times, and even worked on real estate projects foreclosed by the bank I worked for over 3-4 years. Times were not always good. Since the continued influx of tourists, for the beach and golf, times are better, but the amenties are spread all over and still way too many. Try Calabash, or Carolina Shores to try and get out form the main tourist area.
Golf is the king. I recall something like 33 golf courses in the area, and normally crowded year round.
