The Pelican Inn has been around since being originally built in the 1840s, and has been serving southern charm in its 8 air conditioned rooms to families for decades. The main area is between some of the highest dunes on Pawleys, and the live oak trees lining the road, therefore saving it from alot of destruction from the various hurricanes. Rooms are $250 a night for 2 adults and include breakfast and a large midday dinner, and is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
There is also a private crabbing/fishing dock for guests' use.
PIR rents all kinds of houses up and down the beach, and the other roads on the island as well. We just rented a 4 bedroom house which was on the beach, and also had a dock on the creek behind the house across the road. Nice to have both! You can catch crabs or fish from the dock, or just relax with a drink watching the birds and the sunset over the marsh. The house, Wy-Knot, has 4 small bedrooms all on the right, with a kitchen and long den all on the left side of the house---a small screened in porch and a deck outside facing the beach...This is also the 7th house from the south end, giving a little extra privacy and less car noise. Approx. $1650 for a week in May total....We had at one time 7 people staying there and were not too crowded, but room was at a premium!
