More about The Litchfield Inn
Great Place
by TripAdvisor Member Jaz58
We enjoyed a wonderful week at the Litchfield Inn. We had a ground floor oceanside suite. The room was very spacious and we truly enjoyed the screened in patio. To listen to the waves at night was very relaxing.
Staff was very good. Unfortuneately the restaurant was not open for the season yet.
A couple of good restaurants are located nearby yet the best choice of places are located about 15 minutes north in Murrells Inlet.
Leave your stress behind

If you are looking for a beautiful place to relax and forget your stress, Litchfield Inn is the place. The beautiful beach is definitely less crowded than Myrtle Beach and the water is a beautiful, clear blue. Being from Florida, we were looking for a clean, quiet beach with a family atmosphere and found it at Litchfield Beach. We stayed in the "tower" in room 531 and feel asleep to the sound of the waves every night. The view was wonderful! The kids even watched dolphins and pelicans from the balcony. We plan to go back next year and the next. We haven't found another place like this and we have been looking for a long time.
shabby by the beach

It is important to clarify that the Litchfield Inn is no longer associated with the Litchfield Golf and Beach Resort in Litchfield (Pawleys), South Carolina. We made the reservation last fall when it still was part of the resort and thought we would get the same level of comfort and service by the beach. Imagine our surprise when we arrived for a four night stay to find that the Resort no longer operated the Inn and that they hadn't bothered to notify us!. Further, as part of the changover in ownership, the onsite restaurant was closed. Each unit in the Inn is apparently privately owned and so they vary quite a bit by decor and furnishings. If hair dryers or beach chairs or specific services are needed, be sure to ask about availability when you make the reservation and again when you check in. Overall the best thing is the location on the beach; otherwise, everything seemed a bit run down and shabby, including the door to our unit which was coming off its rusted hinges!
Home Away From Home !!

The Litchfield and Pawleys Island areas of South Carolina are truly one of the last few "hold-outs" when it comes to escaping the maddening crowds of trying to vacation on the Ocean Front !! I grew up in Myrtle Beach but we have chosen to raise our children in Pawleys Island. (It is only about a 30 minute drive into Myrtle Beach.) The best part about living in a resort area is that we as locals, feel like we are "Always on Vacation". We really love to "play tourist" every year and choose to stay on the oceanfront. Of course, we can't afford to live on the beach, so it is fun every once in a while to rent a nice accomodation, pack up the kids, and go only 3 miles... haha.. With today's gas prices, this short distance is incredible. Of course, we send my husband home each day to take care of the animals. Our family stayed at the Litchfield Inn last summer... What makes it so nice is that our son can surf - great wave break out front... While I enjoy the beach, I love hanging by the pool and watching my daughters swim. My husband surfs with our son also. The "Calypso" pool bar and restaurant is very casual and you can eat out by the pool. There are tables with umbrellas. The Litchfield Inn, even though it is an old motel, was converted to condos, and some of the rooms are very very nice. Being on the beach here in June or July is like being on the beach in Myrtle Beach in the winter... Not because the weather is cooler, but because the beach is never, ever overcrowded. You can walk for miles on the beach. To the south we enjoy walking toward the area where the ocean meets the inlet. People are always throwing in a rod and reel trying their luck for fishing. We've seen some pretty incredible sized flounders coming out of that inlet. To the north, we have biked to the Huntington Beach State Park where the old Atalalya Castle is. Anna Hyatt Huntington used the castle as her personal residence for many years and created some of her best sculpture masterpieces for Brookgreen Gardens which is located just across the street from the Huntington Beach. Anyway, our family truly enjoys the "small town" atmosphere surrounding the Litchfield Inn. It absolutely is not the plush condominium accomodations offered just up the beach, but let's not SPOIL the children... They are happy with a pool, a "virgin daiquiri", and the great beach life.... Let's face it, we're in the room to sleep and rest up for another beautiful "Sunny South Carolina day !!!" All of this and only 3 miles away...INCREDIBLE !! I love this place !!! Oh, (p.s.) the accomodations are very reasonable in price. Just $94 a night at this time right now I believe for a smaller unit. Always ask for a unit that has been remodeled and has an A rating. ENJOY !!!!!!!! See you at the BEACH !!!

The pictures of this place are very deceiving! Could not wait to check out- the shower ran cold water, maintenance was called to repair, but never fixed the problem, rust was everywhere, the door knob literally fell apart upon opening and the batteries fell out of the key card holder, we had to ask for towels daily. The people next to us were smoking pot every night on their balcony for our three children to smell and ask what the odor was. Just a nightmare! The only positive thing was the peacefulness fo the surrounding area/beach. Will never go back!
What a find! Hope we go back again (& again!)

Friendly, courteous, helpful staff. Wonderful beachside bar/restaurant. (Try the crab dip!!) Clean room w/nice amenities. Family friendly beach. Nice alternative to busy, crowded Myrtle. Very much hope we will be able to return for another vacation. PLENTY of nearby restaurants of all kinds, retail & grocery stores - but not right on top of you on the beach.

The people here are always ready to assist you in any way. The oceanfront is inviting especially for family groups. You see lots of grandparents with the families and that is what we first liked about Litchfield. They are sprucing it up and it should look great by June. They try to give out deals when possible and that really helps us to keep traveling there. Don't pass up the chance to go there. Enjoy!
Oceanfront the way it used to be

We felt as though we had returned to the beach of our childhood. Our unit 105 was oceanfront with an efficiency kitchen, nicely furnished, clean and comfortable with a wonderful screened-in porch from which we could rock and watch the waves breaking on the sand. The beach bar and snack area is open and conveniently located for pool and beach access. The main restaurant opens shortly under new local management by one of the area's leading chefs from what I was told. There are, also, many great and reasonably priced restaurants within a mile or two of the Inn. We will definitely return in the Fall of this year, and at least in terms of units to rent, we can recommend #105.
Not A Good Hotel

My husband and I stayed at this Inn during Memorial Day weekend. It was not what we had seen over the internet. It was one of the worst hotels we have ever visited.
The staff was friendly and informative. The room was loudsy. There were bugs in the room including bed bugs. My back still itches and I have never seen so many bugs on the sliding doors.
The carpet was dirty and the furniture was terribly outdated.
I also believe we were over charged for the room
