Wards BBQ, Sumter, SC, 1962
Friday noon. I think they were only open 3 days a week!
I remember the place with great fondness. Lunch (the BBQ plate. What else) BBQ, Hash, Rice, vinager based sauce to die for,Macaroni Salad, Corn Dogers and a huge Ice Tea for $1.25. For an extra 25 cents worth of BBQ, all you needed was a nap. Only a teenager can eat like this

there's a flat field good for an airstrip.
and that's why there's an air base there.
there are some good people trapped in sumter--they just haven't found a way to get out yet.
otherwise there's a lack of both imagination and money for any kind of town aesthetics. there are no sidewalks in sumter.
there's an iris garden that's pretty. sometimes in sumter late at night you can actually hear the seconds ticking away from your life forever.
