Comfort Inn & Suites

Nice area of Custer at the edge of town

We used this Comfort Inn as our hub for a three night visit in the Mount Rushmore area. There are plenty of places to eat nearby and lots of choices in the town of Custer. Check in went fine - we were really impressed by the friendliness of the people in South Dakota. We had a good size room in the back that overlooked the trees and hill and it was very quiet. We were able to open the windows at night and enjoy the cool temps with no noise. The bathroom was clean and had hand lotion, shampoo and hair conditioner. Also the towels here and fluffy and white. Never once did we get a thin towel. There was no fridge or microwave in the room which was too bad because we were there for three nights and couldn't keep drinks cold or fruit cooled down. For an extra fee you can have a fridge. There were plenty of electrical outlets in the room and all the lightbulbs and lights worked. They also have a good size indoor pool and hot tub here. Always a good idea in the Dakotas. The pool was clean and hardly used while we were there. They provided towels at the pool so we didn't have to take or use our room towels.
The one computer they have is in the lobby - but that too was not used very often so it was easy to check our email and travel information.
The breakfast was the same every day - which really surprised me and was somewhat disappointing for a 3 day stay. The main item on the bar was biscuits with white sausage gravy - all 3 days. The only eggs they offered were hard boiled. They had canned fruit cocktail for the fruit - no fresh apples or oranges. They had a make your own waffle area so we had waffles one morning with blueberry syrup. They also offered brown sugar with the instant oatmeal. They had assorted juices and assorted flavors of cream for the coffee, which was good. They also offered bagels, bread for toast, sweet rolls and doughnuts.
The room was cleaned each day while we were gone so when we came back in the afternoons from our scenic drives and activities we were able to relax and rest. There was plenty of parking here. Other than the monotonous breakfast, I would recommend this Comfort Inn. We got a Seniors' rate of $79 because I booked it earlier in the spring.

Unique Quality: The location is very nice - we really felt like we were in a lodge in the country.
